Dunno..i know of an 86.5 that will detonate with less boost than that.
be careful...
makes me wonder how Bill B has ran so long with out issues. I think when he gets that I/C hooked up he will see a gain in power due to timing being back to normal and the knock sensors getting some time off work .

Tony,

As far as I know the '85-'86 32Vs don't have a knock sensor! The timing is adjusted by a vacum line connected to the ECM. I've used a "T" on this vacum port to hook up the boost gage (very convinient).

He is NOT I/C'd therefore his timing may be retarded VIA the knock sensors to prevent any detonation occuring.
The I/C will allow his engine to run at the at a higher amount of spark advance than it would presently.= a few more HP

The 86.5 doesnt have them either. It will detonate at 5-6psi with out an intercooler

Ok, good. For a minute I thought my knowledge of the early 32V was off.

But Bill only runs 5 psi (or slightly less)....with 30lb injectors too. No problems so far....including 170mph in the desert (100 degrees @ 6000ft)? Still the intercooler should give quite a nice boost once its in!

Back from a business trip...

As Brian said, I'm only at 5lbs. Knock sensors have been checked with the Spanner. On 91 octane from a decent source, I've never had any ping/knock/whatever.

I do want to install the IC even though I've had no problems flogging the thing pretty hard for a 100 miles at 95F in the open road races, as Brian noted. On one course leg that was basically 50 miles uphill, I did have to turn off the AC as the temp gauge was about ready to hit the red zone. Usually once I flip the AC off the temp falls below the second white line. This time it just stayed out of the red zone, but did not fall much. That was because of the long uphill. Had I been on an overall level course, I don't think heat would ever be an issue, with or without the IC. But I do want to see what the IC does. I should run cooler and have more power. The AC is a valuable accessory in desert open road racing.

8 lbs boost is going to be a whole different story. The S4's timing/cams seem to have far fewer issues with boost than with GT equipment. Maybe Rick will get away with 8lbs and no IC. He has some experienced SC people working on this, but I don't think he has said much about how he expects to tune for 8lbs and no IC. Could be simple. Dunno.

Imo and Tony, you can jumper them for low octane. That retards like the knock sensors.
