Default Anybody else have this with 0W40 Mobil 1?

Since Porsche recommended the 0W40 Mobil 1 for all of their cars, I decided to try it a few weeks ago at oil change time. Since changing to it, my annoying clacking noise from the top, right of the engine has gone away completely. Before I could get it to go away running at higher rpm, but it would come back within a day.

When I first bought the car it made the noise with the 10W30 that was in it. I did the first change with 10W30 and it still made the noise so the next change I put 15W50 in it. The 15W50 made the noise go away for about a day so I figured it was because it was new oil. Since it's been 3 weeks now and the noise has not returned, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Just curious.

Is that not the one listed in the manual? Maybe it was 10W40, but I'm pretty sure it was a 10Wsomething at first.

Delvac 5w40 here, never had any lifter noise. Also fixed Miata lifter noise for a few I know.

Deliriousga,

If you haven't already, you may want to run a forum search on Doug Hillary (or something like "oil analysis"), he's posted 10 or so serious oil analyses that support jpitman2's recommendation on 5w40 Delvac synthetic.

You mention the Porsche recommendations, but I think that they have revised some of those over the years, although I don't know if your MY is one of them.

This was a recent recommendation. We got the notice because the Boxster was taken care of by the local dealer when we first got it. The recommendation was for all models so I got it for both P-cars since oil changes were coming up soon.

Thanks for the info. I'll look up the threads you suggested.

I am using the Mobile 1 0w 40 but I didn't have any noises before I began using it. So far I am happy with it. Sorry I can't add more info. If something changes I'll let you know.
