I always index my plugs, it's really elementary. Simply instal them and with a NASA-grade aluminium-penetrating X-ray, take a sapshot, develop it and voila! re-orient as required. I've measured actual gains in excess of .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000076532098121225 brake horsepower.
Next on the performance agenda, is breathholding. If you breathe while you drive, the carbon dioxide can enter the intake under some circumstances. I've been able to measure actual torque gains, though they don't show up on the dyno .... yet. Yesterday I ate an apple and measured a loss in horsepower, so now I'm eating once week, and take the bus on that day

Now dont laugh. There is a similar thing done on aircraft engines. Somebody offers a service where they record cyl head temps over a period of operation to get a base line, then remove and number the fuel injectors, and rework them to compensate for the temps - ie increase the flow rate for the hottest cylinders so that all operate at nearly same temps. This allows the pilot to know that he doesnt have to watch out for odd temps in one cylinder, and operate at best lean setting.
