Question Gemballa 928

http://cgi.ebay.com/Gemballa-Porsche...QQcmdZViewItem

ran across that on ebay....

which brings me to a few questions...

what exactly did Gemballa do to the 928? how many are there? what kind of power do they put out? how much did they charge?

I think their modifications were mostly cosmetic in nature.

Most likely control radios volume, tuner etc.

They actually did modify the engines but were known for their wild designs. In the same genre as Koenig. I will pull out a magazine I have with a Gemballa 928 and see what it was they did. I was on the shoot in Germany so I remember the car.

Like Koenig I think they outsourced engine tuning to Lotec or some other tuner and did not do it themselves.

I stand corrected. The article lists only a new exhaust as a perfromance mod. Maybe later as they became bigger they did engine mods. This is an early car. 1990's. They did do suspension and wheel and tire mods as well as body kits and interiors and stereos. It did list the leather interior package including Recaro based seats at 25k and the suspension mod at 2500.00 No overall value was given because you could choose what you wanted done and they would do it.

They would have been better off not mod'ing the exhaust. Four tail pipes looks ridiculous.

There was a white Gemballa up on the rack in the service dept over at Brumos Porsche back about 6 mos. ago when I was there. Only got to see it from underneath & the sides, but it was way cool what I could see. The service dept mgr said the Gemballa 928's had about another $50k in price tag for their package of goodies. Thinkin the way to buy one of those was definately after someone else paid for it new!

I have some "exotic" cars books from the late 80's....both show stock 928S & a couple different tuner cars.....a supercharged Strosek wide body in a slate gray & another tuner? (I'll find the book later) with a targa top and stereo equipment everywhere! Even in the center for the targa top!

Yeah, they are a company known for their custom interiors.

So that is where most of the money went.

The external stuff is all just for looks.

They did not do much to the engines other than exhaust.

I have a pretty nice dark blue s4 Gemballa on my website.
They did an ok job with the s4. The OB looks pretty stupid however...
