Default Any Rebuilt Tensioners NOT leaking? How?

In reading some of the threads on rebuilding tensioners and what oil to use it appears they ALL ended up leaking. Has anyone successfully rebuilt their's and not had it leak? Has anyone tried RTV or some sort of sealer on the tensioner boot?

No leakage from the one I rebuilt on the '90 GT so far...

Sealer shouldn't be necessary if you use the correct boot.

I rebuilt mine for the first time and it doesn't seem to be leaking (at least not oil, coolant on the other hand...) I used generic 90-weight oil that had to be the most foul smelling substance I've ever been in contact with.

I have replaced seals and refilled oil (rebuilt is too strong a word for that IMHO) on 4 cars and one spare engine, and another I've had the pleasure of doing again. Not one has leaked afterwards. Incidentally neither has any oil pan gasket I've ever replaced

Mine leaked, so I tightened the boot. Then it leaked so I sealed the boot. Then it still leaked, so I sealed the gasket. Then it leaked so I refilled it a few times. Then I noticed that it only leaks a little the first few times I run it, it doesn't get empty, and it doesn't leak anymore unless I refill it.

H, wanna come replace my oil pan gasket? Feel free to do the clutch and motor mounts while your in there with the crossmember and headers removed.

Canine Dude, did you pull and re-bolt the tensioner each time?

Mine was so dirty that just getting it cleaned up qualified as rebuilding it in my mind!

Initial rebuild yes. Tighten boot, no. Subsequent times, yes.

BTW: mine was so dry, rusted, dirty, that I needed a hammer to disassemble it.

The pic is after heavy cleaning and rust removal...

How's about the tensioner to block seal....did mine twice and the oil just leaks right out......the last time I bypassed the bloody gasket and just used the form a gasket stuff...seems to be OK...for now..I'm betting that the lack of one bolt (previous owner mechanics snapped off in block) is partly to blame...

Are you sure it isn't leaking out the tensioner bolt? And that you tightened the bleeder.

Wow, those things can rust, can't they?

I haven't noticed any leaks from mine with 90 weight oil in...

IF those pics you posted are after "heavy cleaning, and rust removal"...Geez...I know mine has to be in similar condition. All i have done to it since my PO had the belt, water pump, and tensioner replaced about 5K miles ago,,,is to retension the belt, and in November (and this disturbs me...) is to ADD some 80-90W gear oil to the tensioner body as a preventative measure..prior to the onset of winter here in the midwest.. The fact that I added gear oil to the tensioner.... and it took more oil to actually come out the higher port on the tensioner body...when filling/bleeding tensioner housing...is a concern to me. Especially...after only 5K miles.. No...not a lot...but still...it took some oil to refill it. What do you guys think....any worries here ??? or relax till spring ?? This IS a daily driver, (unless I have to drive the Dodge).
