Catalytic Converter delete?
I have an 87 S4 orginally from cali, but founds itself in my garage in florida... so the car has unescessary power robbing cats which it doesnt need. So my question is what do i need to do in order to take them off? such as materials etc.

What you seek is an X pipe... it replaces the down tubes and cat convertor. While state laws may not check for cats The laws requiring cats is a FEDERAL LAW and there are NO exclusions.
Our catless X-overs are sold for off road use only (wink-wink!) and are well worth the effort, documented to the tune of approx. 30 horsepower.

Do they actually have less HP? I remember seeing some cars that the specs actually showed that Cali cars had less HP, but I've never seen anything that says that such 928's actually produce less power. It might have just cost more money to produce those cats, so to make the car a bit cheaper they just didn't put it in for cars destined to other states.
I'm speculating there, but I'm on option 027 guy as well, so I'm curious to know what's actually up.
Remove cats, store in garage corner or dispose, fit X pipe (the choice is yours; there's a few to choose from recently).............enjoy weight savings, more power and beautiful sound!!!

The emissions equipment was the SAME for California as the rest of the US no difference. Some other cars in years past had special California only equipment specifications but not the 928 !

or cut the cats open and save the outer metal housing and fit it around the X section to create the illusion of catalytic conversion, dont forget to add rotten eggs to keep the smell right and warn off anyone looking too closely
whitefox..................you can always run a stock rear muffler with the X..................power increase is apparently not deminished but V8 shriek is somewhat lessend. TETO (to each their own)
I would if I bought the car with the stock rear muffler, RMB was already installed. OEM muffler was not included.
I dont want the car to sound like a Harley-Davidson and wake the neighbors up

WhiteFox,
>Im afraid that if I purchase the X-pipe that it will be to loud with my RMB...
You can get our Stainless Steel Modular Crossover and the cat version includes Cats and Straight pipes. You change from one to the other without any cutting etc, using only normal tools.
