I take with a grain of salt all of these tests, especially on the internet, recognizing that the tester may not be entirely unbiased. Craig Peterson, for example (aka radartest.com) has worked as a paid consultant for every radar detector company except Valentine.

Nonono Dave ... I've tested both. Real-world. An SR-1 caused a number of brake slamming sessions and ZERO TICKETS BABY ..... and the Valentine One ... well, I've been in a couple of 928's and got a couple of tickets under the protection of a V1 .....

Laser or Radar? V1 in one of the logic modes or "All Bogeys"? Of course it's possible to get tickets with any detector. I'm not trying to change your mind, just curious what mistakes might have been made.

Anyway, I still stand by what I said about testers not disclosing what version V1 they are testing.

There is no worthwhile passive defense for laser IMHO.... thus my earlier comment about a "laser transceiver". Fortunately it's a non-issue around here. I would definitely be in the market for a laser jammer if I lived where you do!

I've been in a long line up of 928s coming back from the track..and everyone had a different radar detector..including H and his Escort. Adam (V1) radios back..I'm picking up something...I'm going to slow down...no one else see's anything..then we come around a bend and all of a sudden all the detectors go off....cop was facing oncoming traffic but could have easily turned to nail a bunch of Porsches coming up the road..Luckily we were all at a reasonable speed at that point..

That was the only direct comparison I have seen between a bunch of different detectors in the same situation. I would bet that if H had been driving his S4 that day the cop nailed us from behind and above..with X band.....he would also be sitting on the side of the road with a $400 ticket . He was pulled off an on ramp.back up above the highway. His words were...I waited for you to crest the second hill and nail you....not much chance there..

BTW..don't have a detector yet...but when I do..it'll be a V1....

Tom

Weeeell that settles it for me Tom, if you think so I bet it's true. I got nailed head-on with laser more than a few times with the SR1 and managed to not get stopped. Wish you had been there, might have changed your bet or at least your ante

Now if I were driving a V1 equipped 928 and got nailed while you got away..well..then maybe so...but for now...only hard evidence I have is thumbs up for V1....

Still detector less..

Tom don't let me stop you from at the V1 altar .... more power to you. What I can say for myself, I've never once got a ticket using the SR1 ...... sound good-ish?

No. I never was written a ticket and never was stopped while in a car running the SR1. Cannot say the same for when I was travelling in cars equipped with V1 and other detectors

I know your next question, the answer is, I've owned an SR1 since 2001. Granted I haven't used it in a year
