used switches from a 996 or something less crappy than the

Conveniently for Nicole and me, our Saabs have the window switches on the center console as well. Of course, we have to rember that the ignitions are in different places. You win some, you lose some.

Keith,

dammit! now I've been exposed... I do sometimes use the switches while driving.... I'll try to cut it out...Sorry.

Seems like the concensus is that "Wiper Delete" is the solutioin to my biggest gripe!

Jeff - if you really want to relocate the rear wiper switch to the pod - bear in mind that thats how very early cars were configured. You can get an all original switch head and switch for the rear wiper - totaly 'stock' (just 'old stock')...

No Kiddin.... there I go showing my lack of "long term" ownership. This is my first 928, my first Porsche... for that matter. I love this car, and the more I work on it, and make subtle restorations, and (upgrades)..., the more I learn. It seemed "odd" to me, at first, that with space a premium object all through the 928..., the engineers chose to occupy a pod switch location, for an "Odometer reset" button. But then again...the decision to move the auto trans gear indication from an illuminated floor shift display, that was end user serviceable, to a "soldered", in the dash unit, convinced me that, ( for the 928 anyway), Porsche made a concerted effort to make the cars "regular and routine" service, a Dealer item...as much as possible anyway. Unfortunately...as is...theres nothing to be done with the vacated hole in the console, if the Rear Wiper Switch were to be returned to the dash, pod, as per the original interior scheme./

Jeff - well you could leave the "dead" switch there as a 'blanking plate' until you come up with a suitable use (you can clean off the pictograph quite easily)

Personally thats what I have done so far...

Although heres my longer term thought - replace it with a regular window switch (I already have one), and create an all-open - all-closed feature...
One button that opens all the windows & sunroof with one press & closes all the windows and the sunroof with one press. If I get around to it I'd also link it to my keyless entry so I can do the all-open remotely as a second stage unlock. It will require overriding the X-Bus temporarily - I haven't figured out how any of this would go yet... I kind of like the idea though (and it makes sense to be there).

When it feels like you live on the face of the sun - the sooner you can vent the hot air the better...

Now THAT's a thinker!!! Alan... I have to hand it to you...that IS a reasonable idea, for what to do with the vacated switch location. And probably do-able, with the other switches in such close proximity. , In my case though, I'd probably end up, after wiring it all up...(point to point, none the less), with the windows and sunroof operating *** backwards, after all was buttoned up. I repaced a window switch earlier this year, with a brand new Ebay special, and it did not come with the plastic harness connector on the end of the female spade terminals...no problem...I just removed the connector from my old switch, put it on the new one, buttoned everything back up, and SHAZAAM...up = down !! Back to the drawing board. This car LOVES me !
