Brett..............X pipe to GT resonators to a RMB................exhaust sound is music to my ears.

Described by friends and family as very 'Ferrari' and a full Superbike on song.

The diff between this and stock is night and day.............the beast is truly unleashed; power and sound wise......ETTO

I have both on an 87S4, i thought about getting a dB meter from radio shack but havent gotten around to it.
Its louder than stock.
It sounds better than stock
Its puts out more power than stock.

The X does drone a bit at cruise when in and out of the throttle lightly, but it sounds WAY better than the H pipe bypass that i used to have. The motor sounds a bit more exotic with the X pipe IMHO..over stock as well as the H pipe.
I may end up tossing a couple of glass packs in, in a modular fashion that i can take out at will, like i did with my Hpipe just to get rid of the highway drone.

In the meantime at the track just......

Hi Brett
Your '86 S2 is a bolt up system. I have a rear box if you need it.

brett i did exactly this to my 86 S2 last year, rmb and ott x pipe. absolutely loved it for a little while and then i had a proper exhaust made - it is too loud to live with for an extended period on a daily driver. but it is soooo much fun! my gas mileage increased cause i was a lot easier on the LOUD pedal. do it and drive it for a while, then get a back box fitted.

Tony,

Is there enough room to run those glasspacks aft of the x? If I remember from your pics, they were about 21 inches long (plus or minus). I'm assuming you could just have a m. shop cut the rear exaust pipes accordingling (after the X) and then just place the glasspacks in place of where the cats would go? BTW, how much did the G.Packs quiet down your old setup? For my OB I'm thinking about this setup as I'm now exempt in Texas from emission controls. We have a rolling emissions standard here, as of January 2006 all cars 1981 and older are exempt. Jan 2007 82 and older, etc, etc, etc. Gotta love that!!!

Hi DRNICK,

Thanks for the reply, I am still really tempted...and WILL probably do it

As you have done it to an S2 DO you think there is any chance of it passing the 100 decibel limit at Castle Coombe ?
If not i will talk to John Speake about a bolt on back box....

All the best Brett

i have a magnaflow "true-x" muffler that i'm going to have installed in the area an x-pipe would fit and then have twin pipes out the rear. no idea how it's gonna sound, but i think it should perform better than what i have in there now which is the stock resonator and stock muffler.

Hey Chuck.
I havent fully investigated it all yet but at first glance it should work fine after the X.
The straight sections of pipe after it will have to come off and i think the first few inches of the stock exhaust may have to as well? All depends on the length that the X section actually takes up before teh pipes straighten out..

IMHO the glass packs made the sound perfect...for me atleast. I beleive i actually had them in backwards, with the openings facing aft, and they sounded fine.
Its defintiley on my list.
Ill dig up the link where i got them.

Tony,

Thanks partner, that's exactly what I was looking for.
Since I've got no use for cats, I definately need something that would quiet the exhaust down a bit. I'm getting my ducks in a row for the exhaust as it's on my list right after the springs and shocks that are completly shot!!!
By the time I get to the exhaust, I'm hoping that Lomus or DR will have the OB true duels to put behind the X and the Glass Packs!

brett, it will be too loud for castle coomb. i was there this year and it was way more fun than i thought it would be, you must try and get there next year if possible. the custom exhaust ive got now is dual 2.5" after the x with straight through mufflers at the stock locations, mid and rear. this set-up only just got through the noise control but the x + rmb would not have.

Brett,

My S2 5spd posted 114db at 4500rpm at Paul Anderson's workshop when we tested it. The car has an RMB and everything else standard.

My GT has the Ritech X-Pipe (it was the test mule for its development) and a custom 6" Eisenmann Straight Through Back Box. I barely scraped past the Nurburgring limit of 100db by having the throttle 1/3 open at the exit gates...

Hope that helps,

Alex
