Default Oil pump removal

Hi in the middle of doing t/belt. Just finished overhauling the tensioner now I want to replace the oil pump gear and seals. I have the o pump gear off and have removed the M8 x 3 mm bolts. Have I missed anything as the pump is stuck fast ? Someone said give the housing a tap with a rubber hammer but I don't want to crack the casing. How hard should the oil pump be stuck into the housing?

Advise comments please.

Comment: Why do you want to replace the gear?

Advice: Insert the seal to be just flush with the surrounding surface. No lip to stop it on the back side.

I found a PVC pipe coupling at the plumbing store that fit over the engine block.

Then I installed the oil pump pully (backwards, as I seem to recall), with the plastic coupling and used the oil pump shaft nut to pull/press out the oil pump.

Worked like a charm, and no need to hit the shaft with a hammer.

Hopefully, you got it out. Just wanted to add to the thread Garth linked, which mentions getting the cover back on with the large O-ring installed. The easiest and safest way to do it is to get three bolts slightly longer than the stock ones (can't remember the size) - long enough to have about 1/2" sticking out with the cover/O-ring up against the pump housing (block). Slowly and evenly, tighten each bolt to pull the cover toward the block until the O-ring is pulled past the lip of the housing and you can get the stock bolts started to thread. It's simple and no fear of boogering up the O-ring.

Hi all thanks for the comments/ suggestions. Got the devil off by using a length of 2x2 wood and a steel hammer. Just had to tap it downwards 1-2 mm then got underneath the car and did the same upwards. The pump then just slid it out. Replacement did similar to JPs suggestion except started with the original bolts less the washers etc. This gave just enough bolt length to seat the pump correctly. Then removed the bolts one at a time and refitted them with the washers and seals. Next move is the cam gears any ideas in advance would be great.
