Hi Jim,

Happy Holidays!

>Are you draining these units back to the oil pan?

Yes.

>If so, how are you doing it and are you planning on selling those adapters/fittings as well?

Thee are a few ways you can do it. On the pre-88 32V it is easier as there is a block off plate on the oil pan leftover from where the 16v 928s had the oil drain tube from the oil filler assembly. For those applications you can install the 16v type fitting or a less expensive way is to drill the block off plate and put a barbed fitting on it for the drain back hose.

Unfortunately for those of us with 89 and later the hole for the block off plate was eliminated. I handle those 2 different ways depending on the preference and/or budget. The best way is to remove the oil pan (opportune time is when changing Motor mounts or Oil Pan gasket etc,) and drill and tap this area for the fitting. The "boss" area is still there where the plate used to be so it is obvious where it goes. A simpler solution for a temporary drain back until you are ready to drop the oil pan is to but the drain back hose on the dipstick tube. On that same note you could weld a "Y" on the dipstick tube and put the drain hose on the new "Y" and still have your dipstick in place. I personally only recommend using the dipstick tube (and not adding a "Y") until you can use the proper location down on the pan. It will drain better and will have a much larger hole to drain into vs the smaller dipstick tube.

Hope that makes sense,

Thanks for asking DR! Allow me to go a tad off topic by saying Life has been pretty sweet for us with our boy now 17 months old and our second, a girl, scheduled for a January arrival. It's been rather easy to take this break from my extra curricular activites - all the magic that's been happening makes a person lose track of time... That being said, when I discovered the B100 dates for 2006 and see how great they'll work with my schedule - well, I am feeling a bit giddy with anticipation. I did Elko in 2001, and Bonneville in 2002, so next year will be a welcome return to the great state of Nevada.

The old girl is in storage back home for the Winter (looking forward to 6 - 8 inches of the white stuff tomorrow), so I won't be doing any work on her until Spring . Thanks for the offer on the separator! I really do appreciate this topic and all the input and discussion everyone is offering. I'll do some homework, be in touch after the dust settles in January and figure out a game plan.

The simple fact of the matter is, as George S. found out already, and I discovered from several extended boost runs, the oil separator issue simply has to be dealt with one way or another.

Btw, I am also looking forward to a HID light uprage for the power consumption benefit as well as better lighting. My car runs very cool with the big fan up front, but turn the headlights & fogs on, crank the stereo etc. and the need for reduced power consumption becomes evident by lower volts. Of course my belts are all nice and tight and the volts are fine and dandy during daytime driving. It is a big *** fan + the four small ones original to the kit!

Cheerio,
Pete

Down one more.....now I can get rid of that impromptu redline oil can setup I fabbed at the track...

BTW....these can be used on NA engines too...gets rid of the oil ingestion at high rpm that most 928's seem to have (some more than others).....

Thanks DR....

Dave -

Subtract another one from the stock-on-hand. I called Pam and placed the order.

I finally see what all the fuss is about.

I finally got a chance to test out my new fat rubber (245's all round, 8" rims), and light weight, on this long, downhill, banked right-hand-curved onramp. I was in first gear all the way - up to 60, with the back end going 'round just sweetly.

As I merged into traffic, now in second, up to 80, I belched out blue smoke. Off the throttle a bit, no smoke, on again, smoke. It took a few minutes driving before all the oil in the pipe was blown/burned out.

Man, that freaked me out. I knew it must be the high rpm curve, but I had a minor horrid feeling that I broke a ring or sump'in!

I am working on a similar setup for my 1987 S4 that has been using oil and smoking the **** out of it at start. Since this only happens when the car has been driven, i am assuming that the seperator in my 32V head is not doing the job right and letting a lot of oil go up in the intake. I have purchased a Porsche 924 Turbo oil seperator for $70 from the dealer and will plumb it as follows :

S4 Head -> 924 Turbo Oil Seperator -> Air/Moisture -> Intake
-> Oil -> Pan

Any thoughts?

Sincerely,
Khaled
