Angry Caveat emptor. G.A.D.

Anyone used German Auto Dismantlers for used parts ?

I had them send me a rear tail light for an S4, which they assured me was in good condition, it arrived as a well used, cracked unit, full of crazing.

The cost to return it is prohibitive, so am stuck with a useless part.

They were not really interested in my comments.

Sorry to hear of your woes. I had one bad episode with them as well, but what really gets me is how only about 1% of their Ebay auctions actually end with a winning bid. Must be good PR, who knows?

When you've been around the 928 loop as long as I have, you learn rather quickly who your friends are.

I've gotten some stuff from them. Usually not a nice as advertised. With their reputation it does go cheap!

Caveat emptor indeed.

I'll jump in and defend them I guess.......bought a set (ebay) of big headlights for my cab from them. Got them quick and in great shape. In fact they even threw in the headlight outer buckets that were not shown in the auction.

Just my experience.....

Default Can I vent about German Auto Dismantlers????

https://rennlist.com/forums/forumdis...?s=&forumid=56 German Auto Dismantlers came recommended to me by a well-known Porsche mechanic as a friend and reliable supplier of parts. I bought a few minor parts for my 2000 996 from David at GAD with no problem whatsoever.

In February I bought a 1987 Carrera (not from GAD) to set up for DE events. I bought everything new but thought that I would try used parts for the Fuchs wheels and Bilstein shocks. I called Dave and come to find out that he is no longer there. I am now dealing with the owner, JOE. He had 2 16X7 Fuchs that were promptly shipped and immediately billed to my debit card. NO PROBLEM.

I then asked Joe if he had HD Bilsteins for the front and back. He said that he would check and get back to me. Two days later there is a $250 debit to my checking account. I called Joe because I could not figure out how an inquiry turned into a debit to my account. He promised me that the shocks would be coming soon. I decided to not make a stink since four HD Bilsteins for $250 still sounded reasonable.

A week went by and no shocks. I waited and waited. Then I got an automatic email stating that GAD had sent a package. Another debit to my checking account for shipping. Again I decide not to freak out, and wait for the package. They finally show up, 2 rear sport shocks. I called to find out where the fronts were but Joe did not know. He also couldn't tell me why he shipped sport shocks instead of HD.

It has now been weeks that I have been waiting for my front shocks. I have heard every excuse like they just moved and only one of the turntables are set up, or it has been raining for 1 week and no one can get the parts, or the best was that it was very hard to locate the front inserts because you actually had to take the front end out. AMAZING!!!

Now I am mad. I called today after Joe's repeated assurances to call me with a status report. He told me that he did not have time to have me constantly calling him. This was valuable time that he could spend looking for my parts. Meanwhile I cannot set up my suspension or get to a DE Event. Seriously, the debit was unauthorized, the partial shipment was wrong, the balance of the shipment is who knows where for 4 weeks, and Joe is pissed because I call!! WTF?

What have I learned?
1.) Never deal with German Auto Dismantlers again.
2.) Cancel my debit card so that GAD cannot debit me at will
3.) Read Rennlist before I waste money. 5 pages of GAD posts don't lie.
4.) Just go to Pelican Parts

Anyone want to buy two green Bilstein rear shocks for a 911? HD or Sport? No one knows.

Was this a checking-account debit card? The rules are different, some banks don't offer all the massive protection that credit cards do. But the key word is UNAUTHORIZED.

1) You don't have to keep those wrong parts that you DID NOT ORDER but were sent to you - send them back ASAP.

2) Call the bank ASAP and get them on your side. Maybe they can reverse the charges.

Thanks guys! I am a banker so I know the drill. I cant really do anything because GAD will say that they shipped me merchandise and I waited 5 weeks to dispute the charge. I will sell the shocks and recoup some money. I was more interested in telling my fellow Rennlisters about GAD and their practices.

Does anyone know how to copy my last post to the 911 forum?

That's cool that you know the game, uncool that you're screwed out of the money.

Word-of-mouth (or word-of-posts like this) will eventually leave them business-less. Unauthorized debits is an unthinkable business practice to my way of thinking.

The easiest thing to do is post a link to your other post, we'll read it.

I bought a navy blue interior about 3 yrs ago, from a burned 85, I guess i was lucky in that it came as ordered...but after hearing what others have gone through, I doubt I would do business again. Best to stay with the big3 or 4 that we all know.

I bought a fog lite from them....but when they took it off the car, it had a broken mounting tab. They told me before shipping and we settled on half--price. I fixed it with epoxy so you can't see the repair and all is well. They did OK by on on my only transaction w/them. Admittedly, one transactions doesn't show a pattern but I'd probably try them again if needed.

Pic doesn't show crazing well, some evident on red lens. Cracks in reverse light which I tried to fill with thin cyano glue.

The crazing is everywhere but difficult to photograph.
