The car stays in the garage 99.8% of the time. The .2% from last night, well, the windows were a bit foggy. Usually the windows do not fog until I get in the car and start driving. We had a rainstorm last night and it was pretty chilly this AM.

I recently tried cleaning that little vent flap area and got a bunch of leaves and nuts out. It was an incomplete improptu cleaning while I was on my back under the car. Looks like it wasn't good enough eh?
Never found water in the car, but it is what you can't see that tends to get ya.
edit: Wow that was my 1001th post. OK, I really need to get a life.

Additional comments: I admire your reasoning and willingness to play fate. I just am paranoid enough to think it might decide to do it on a rainy night in a place I don't want to stop. Mine are also so damn hard to remove I would rather do it in the comfort (?) of my garage.

Honestly, the first time was in a dark parking lot and I had no clue whatsoever which relay I touched that did the trick. I have the relay chart, but it is impossible to read in the dark. I don't think it was the fuel relay... the car doesn't even crank.
I am actually holding myself up as a bad example. The right thing to do is the right thing to do. And that would be to take care of a known issue before it does one in. In my defense, I have special circumstances: I live fairly close to work, do not drive the car all that often, and when my wife and I finally get a brief break away from the kids, we go out in the Volvo. My 928 is not a mission critical daily driver.
Now that my odds have gotton worse... I will probably make an early spring project out of my electricals.
IF I have to do some relay tapping in the future, I will tap-try-tap-try-tap-try and report back which relay it is. (This is actually quicker than pulling out the relay chart and making deliberate attempts).
BTW It seems to only take a very light touch to resolve my issue.
I have futzed with electricals a little bit before and I have found that there is no comfort even in the garage. It pays to have long arms and a giraffe like neck so you can sit outside the vehicle. I have neither.

Hi James Man I think it is time for you to do a reseal on the blower box this unit is just above the fuse panel the factory caulk dries out and lets water leak in after it rinses down the windshield to test open the hood and and have a helper spray water next to the plastic cover under the hood on the passenger side the side nearest the fender hood hinge, you get to play detective and go to fuse panel with a flashlight, shine it up to the top of the fuse panel and see if water is dripping onto the fuses I bet you find a leak.
To fix it go to hardware store and buy the 3M strip caulk they are lil round strips then you dissassemble the blower box and lay in some neaw sealant and put her back together takes about 2 hrs to do this job, Stan

ha! same exact thing on my old gal started happening... touch the relay and shazzam! iirc, it's the ignition relay (XVI, about #8, from the left.top row)... hasn't done it in a while, so maybe the contact cleaner bath helped out.... otherwise - have you seen all the wires behind that board and how they are connected??? yeeech!!! not hard, but LOTS of contacts to clean - looks like at least a 10B job (10 beers)
guess I'll hold out till it happens again - as it's real easy to "fix" and the only gremlin I've got left (finally) ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
happy t-day!

Mine was much harder to find. The insulation on the main harness wires going to the crank sensor were worn through. It would start and stay running just because of vibration of the motor, eventually it shorted and stayed shorted. Pulled everything apart, re-wired that section - replaced the crank sensor while I was in there and shazzam, it runs great.

greg and I were discussing this issue yesterday and he mentioned putting some LED's on key circuts to help diagnose them w/out touching/accidently fixing them.... might be an idea if something is really elusive... had crank trigger issues w/my old harness too - we'd reset/re-install it and it'd be fine for a while... replaced the harness ($840.00 from porsche and only 3 left), and all seemed to be well for a while....I'm starting to wonder about the back of my relay panel now, after seeing all the knife edged connectors just waiting to corrode and yet still look just fine upon inspection... I fear the only way to be sure is to pull each one and clean the contacts, but all the wires are the same color - so it's a real snake pit!!!

Sab, Sorry to be so late, but just saw your symptoms. I had the EXACT SAME, symptom on my '91 GT. I then found the fuse was loose in the panel. When pulling the fuse out it felt loose. I was in a hurry so pulled the wires out of the rear of the panel and plugged the fuse into them. The fuse sticks up above the top of the panel on the end of the wires. That was 3 years ago. I have a replacement fuse holder, so maybe if I stop working on everybody elses 928's some day I will replace it.
Check your fuse holder contact tension.
