I am all for it. I tried to contact Dave but he doesn't answer I live right off route 206. The problem is, my engine is in my shed, and the car doesn't run very fast without it.) But you could come down and have a look at it. It looks nice Maybe even help putting it in And we have a great beer brewery in Princeton(triumph)

I am about to buy an 86 928 which has collapsed mounts. The seller says he fitted a temporary insert he sourced from the US. What might this be and how effective ? sorry for all the questions but this could be the decider if I buy or not
The '86 will have the hydraulic style mounts ... which all eventually collapse in the 10 - 15 year window.. Many of us replace them with Corteco/Anchor #2698 mounts at <$100US/pair ... a 'good thing!'. There are many posts on this.
The insert referred to is likely a 'sorbothane' mat from P Jager. This acts as a shock absorber between the sump ( of your 'lump') and the crossmember. It is a good corrective measure: personally, I would consider it temporary until I had an opportunity to replace the mounts.

TooFast - I replaced my solid MM with new factory solid MM four years ago. I was getting vibrations in the car at highway speeds with the old mounts. When I removed the old mounts they were noticeably squished compared to the new mounts. With the new mounts installed the engine sits 1/4 inch higher than before and no more vibrations. I didn't have a digital camera at the time or I'd have some pic's to share. My gut feel about anything rubber in the engine compartment (vaccuum hoses, radiator hoses, gaskets, spark plug wires, etc...) is that it will only be useable for 20 years. After 20 years you are on borrowed time (just my opinion after replacing almost every flexible connection under my hood).

I replaced the MM on my 82 along with the mini shocks. The car had 145K on the clock. The MM and shocks that I took out looked great....and they were original to the car. I figured they HAD to be toast for the time and milage. Put the new parts in. Not one ounce of difference. The only thing I gained was piece of mind, otherwise it was a waste of money for me. The originals DO/should last a loooooooonnnnnnnngggggg time. BTDT!

Last weekend, I helped pull an engine out of a '79. The top plates of the engine mount, were separated, or separating, and the little shock on the passenger side, it's top eye was rattling around the bolt, the rubber eye cusion was totally gone. Otherwise, the shocks were in good condition, hydraulically speaking.....

And, I'll agree the mat thing is a temporary "fix"....

Hi Keith! Rosy is still down. Narrowing it down, but nothing yet has fixed the problem.....

Hi Brett...I just don't know how you cope with a downed shark.

Good point about the seperated plate. That would be a tell tale sign that it IS time to replace the early mounts.

I run these on the TT car with over 400 ft-lbs crankshaft torque and they are holding up. I was wondering if a nice set of these remanufactured with a Urethane compound in place of the rubber would be of any value? Even the S4 mounts are not to rigid in my opinion.

My original set did come apart on the Callaway and I had an 80 where one had completely split as well. The bond just lets go over time.

Imagine a set of these with Urethane...special key-inserts molded into the urethane and then the metal caps bolted back into place...then just bolt them in.

The gas dampers are a PITA if you ask me.
