Default Prices for "new" Porsche parts

Insurances is paying to repair the car my transporter damaged (1986.5 928s 5 spd). They have an estimate of $498 for front bumper cover and $600 for the fender. The car went 20 years without damage and I am hoping they pay for new porsche parts. Anyone know what I can counter to them with?

Thanks,

Calvin

Yes, they indicated them as recond or LKQ. I'm looking for the price of new parts if anyone has access to them.

Thanks,

Calvin

Don't. They will scrap the car.

Listen to Heinrich. My 84S was in an accident in FL. Cosmetic damage only, but the PO's insurance totaled the car because the repairs exceeded the value of the car. The PO fixed the car and could not reregister in the state of FL. I would check woth the insurance co. guidelines before you " stick it to em".

Damage estimate with new parts is approx. $5K vs. $3k for work with used parts. I won't let them total it, but I do want them to pay for the screw-up.

Thanks,

Calvin,
you can probably get away with using a used fender without any problem, the big one is the front cover which is many times warped... I would insist on this part new unless you get a guarantee it isn't warped

Why not total it - buy it back from them for a "negotiated price", turn it into a track car, and get another non-track car? Just a thought.

Unless you’ve BTDT, turning a car into a “track car” is not as easy as most of the people think. It can cost a lot more than bringing it back to normal condition. Just think about it, all the suspension needs to be upgraded that includes the breaks and the tires. The engine has to be in tip top shape and the cost of the interior change can run up the bill really quickly. After all, you don’t want to show up at the track in just a gutted 928 with all stock 20 year old parts and find out that that’s just not enough.
