I suggest you contact US Specs in Md, last I spoke to him he was doing mainly German imports, Porsche, BMW, MB
b) contact DOT and give them a heads up, you will also need to download and fill out an HS7 http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...hs799short.pdf and an HS474 http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/HS-474.pdf
c) buy car
d) get exit papers for car
e) get car shipped to US, $800-1000 from UK to Baltimore or more depending on how pampered you want it on it's journey
f) car arrives in US and is sent to the RI for federalization, at this time you will hand over your HS474 and pay the bond of 150% of the value of the car
g) car is federalized and sent to DOT for inspection
h) if approved you finalize payment to RI (usually you pay 50% down) and get the car
i) you apply for title, get inspection etc and GO!
j) get your bond back
I may have missed a couple things but this is the main procedure
dealing with DOT is a REAL PITA to say the least (details forthcoming)

I saw the same car for sale on the 928.uk.org site at least 10 months ago...and the pics are all the same. I had saved one as wallpaper at that time....so...the pics are library...not more recent than 10 months ago. Just in case it matters to anyone.

Tom you must be kidding! not enough supercharged cars in your barn? ...and a widebody to boot! As the designated widebody shelter owner, I require you bring her by for a reunion with her distant cousins one day

Tom, To federalize that car especially with a charger on it will be extremely difficult and costly. The shipping would be more then 800-1000 I assure you. That price is only the ocean freight. You would have a slew of other charges. I do this for a living so take my word for it. Hell, the container tie down is like 100-200 alone. And that is US money, on this side of the pond. Probably more in UK. Once the vehicle is here you can either A) Import it for racing only, Wait how ever long until it passing the smog time and then federalize it or B) Federalize it now, ( will probably sit for months on end) Be charged how ever many thousands it would take to get it thru EPA and what ever else little charges will be in there.
All in all you will probably save a load of money and headache if you just did your car like this or take another good 928 and did it up. I just sent a Ducati back to Italy last week because the buyer thought it would be so easy to get it thru. Four months later and months of storage charges and paying shipping both ways later he found it to be not a good investment. This is why usually people with a money tree in their back yards only do these things. Anyway good luck either way.

I've not heard of a single successful S2 s/c install here in the uk. They have all been beset with problems...
This car would require VERY careful vetting before purchase :-)

Anybody over here put force induction on a late 16V euro motor? Seems like you would run into detonation issues since you are starting out with high compression before the boost and there is no knock detection or other advanced electronics. I suppose you could use avgas or octane booster...

Norm- I promise I won't tell Connie. If you need to drop it off at Willow, I can meet you there and scuttle it in my garage until the heat is off.

Joe is right,
I was only considering actual liner freight charges, and yes the process of federalization can take a LONG time and there are NO guarantees
