In my 1989 S4, the blower fan for defrost/heat has suddenly stopped working and will not blow on any setting. The fuse is good and I replaced the relay as well—still nothing.
I did a search and checked Nichols which seems to point to replace the motor, but I have a couple of questions.
1.The cabin temperature sensor had been noisy for several days prior (whirring—like a bad bearing). The noise had then stopped (blower fan for defrost/heat still working then) and when I put my ear next to the round vent, I heard no sound at all. Four days later, blower fails Any connection between the failed (assuming) sensor fan and blower motor?
2.Currently, when I press my AC button, it does not illuminate and the compressor does not activate—Is it possible the entire head unit is shot, thus the blower motor does not run, or would the AC not activate because the blower motor has failed.
Thanks

Okay. I did another search and found a post by Jim M. mentioning having the same issue and bottom line (as suggested by WP) I also checked fuse number six to the AC. Voila, it was blown. Thus check number six and seventeen when the blower fails.
I replace it and all is well.
Of course I wonder why, not having used the AC this weekend did the fuse go--question is, does it have something to do with that senor fan????
