Hi Garth,
I chose a longer pin (next size up) for two reasons; I wanted to place the updated piston in a different position in the bore. Away from the wear spot. The B2 band is applied in kick down 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear and in low 1st gear, shifter lever in “2”. It has to be worn down some; experience has taught me the longer pin will put it closer to its ideal tolerance. The only way to measure B2 bad clearance is to remove the valve body and plate.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the logic behind the selection
- I was incorrectly thinking band wear due to insufficient B2 applied pressure .... and resultant slip.
Tim - great pics: now to see one of your steady hand wielding a scapel slicing into your shiny new T-seal
It is especially good to follow your success. "Tails" has done a most thorough write up on this, as perhaps you've now seen
This operation is still on my PM list for the '88, mostly to verify which generation of B2 & seal lives in there; however, the box works so well that it's been a 'back burner' project. I was also planning the valve body K1 piston update and reusing the same B2 pin, as there is only 70K Km on the box. Sounds like a winter operation ...

I wish I knew about this when I had a trans start slipping.
Great info Steve.
