Default V-8 Showdown: Porsche 928 vs. Ferrari 308

A really great 8 page article in Hemming's Sports & Exotic Car, December 2005 issue.

Enjoy...

No link Ben... This is old school. Go to the store and pick up the thing called a magazine (look for Hemmings) It usually has its own section.

Sorry Ben. Hemming's doesn't post the mag on the web. If interested see: https://www.hemmings.com/index.cfm/f...source/SUBPGE4

My euro and a buddys' 308(probably one of the best examples). The 928 wins in all categories easy except for resale value. Kinda strange huh??

What model year did they use for the comparison? Did they use ROW sharks?

Ferrari was never about building a great car or even a good car, most are driven so little that it matters not. Enzo only sold street cars to get the money to go race! The draw is the WOW Factor ,the status, the sizzle not the steak. Your friends might be jealous if you drive a Porsche but might never talk to you again if you have a Ferrari (or you to them ) The 308 is the baby more like a 914-6 than anything else... remember it is running basically two 1500 cc four cylinder engines on a shared crank. Three liters of displacement . And yes I have driven one worked a bit on one my Son in Law bought and thankfully resold at a profit !

A couple of years ago - I got to run at an SCCA AX with a 308...

The shark (AUTOMATIC!) ran .8 seconds faster then the 308GTS (5-speed!)

The 308 might not be the greatest car but it is beautiful. Right, Higgins?

Well, I got a ride in a 328 GTS this summer... This is sooo different from a 928 - it's like day and night. And some people like to be up during the day, while others are night owls. Both have their qualities, but they are entirely different.

I think I'd enjoy a Ferrari, if I wanted to hunt through twisties most of the time. It seemed the 328 is really geared for this kind of driving. But I bought the 928 because I wanted a car that is beautiful, safe, comfortable, decently fast and well suited for road trips.

As beautiful as the 308 is, I would not give my 928 for one...

Thanks Nicole. Since that picture i have added the new exhaust with the dual 3" SS tips sticking out that match the wheels. The sound and performance exceed the appearance. I must give credit to the PO's for evidently garaging my shark that makes the paint appear new.

Minutes after this pic was snapped the 308 and 928 went on a carbon clearing run. Like i said the 928 rules especially from a stop. The 308 handles very well though thanks to the low, wide stance.

I just saw a copy of that Hemmings mag at Dave Chamberland's house. It's his '91 GT in the article and his impressions of the F car and 928 in there as well. Pretty cool. He said two other F cars were supposed to make the shoot but wouldn't run that day. That's funny as well.
Dave's Iris blue '94 was featured in a magazine a few years ago as well.

I went out and bought this mag last night just so I could read that article. Did anyone happen to notice that they compared a 1991 Porsche 928 to a 1977 Ferrari 308 . I don't think it was a very fair comparison. They should have had a 78 or 79 928 to compare. That would have been much more fair. But I really liked the way that they broke down the history of both designs and the philosophy of each car mfg. at the time they were designed. I found that part of the article to be very interesting.

308 is not so great. A 355, now that is a nice ride. Hey, you all know what FIAT stands for right?

FIX IT AGAIN TONY!
