its a track car so weight loss is important, the motor for the lights is really heavy!!

Nick,

I removed the headlight relay, so I had to bridge 3 or 4 terminals. I used two of the headlight motor wires to trigger relays mounted in place of the motor, not the regular headlight wires, so this may not help you.

Bridge the terminals that normally tell the relay the pods are up... what year is this on - the relays work differently <87 & 87+. I assume yours is the early type..?

In that case you will need to bridge 86M & 56 on the relay...
circuit 56 is lighting in headlight position.. in this config you don't need a diode.

If your plug to the motor is still there connect (or splice) the 56 & 86 terminals (White/Black & Green/Yellow wires).

BTW to others - don't do this with the motor connected!!

ive managed to attach some pics of the new headlights and surrounds. ive borrowed from porkens ideas using the hella 50mm halogen projecor and a similar bracket. i found a guy who made up the surround in fibreglass for me.

alan, the car is an 86, i will try as you suggest and report back.

Nick - I like the front end (preferrably without the plate - but I know you have no choice)... is that the Jaquemond version?

The lights look funky! just like little eyes looking at you... good job on those surrounds and nice job on the overall effect... that is one interesting color - pearlescent?

Another place for headlight malfunctions to occur is the combination switch with the hi-lo selector. When I first got mine when I would switch from low to high, one of the headlights would go out. Since the car is disassembled I took the switch and blew some compressed air through it and worked the lever back and forth countless times. It seems to be working now.
