Got my new wires installed today and same SH#T!! Everything has been changed for ignition ( caps, rotors, plugs, now wires) within the last 6 months. EXCEPT the coils?

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF A BAD COIL? IS THERE A TEST FOR THE COIL?

PLEASE HELP!

The manual has tests for the coils. Do you know which cylinders are not firing yet?

Tried the Inductive Light test and all were firing!! I got some tips from Jim at 928 INT, Tony and I are going to check tomorrow (CAM timing and Injectors). Jim mentioned a possible Injector issue, has anyone expeienced an injector problem?

I'm scheduled to drive the Shark to New Mexico the first part of December, I really need to get her fixed.

Thanks to everyone that has lended their recommendations

Did you check each spark plug and did you look in the throttle body?

When I ran the car with MAF disconnected it ran worse.

All Plugs looked normal except for #8, it was gooked up a little. I cleaned it off and re-installed it. That was last week Haven't checked the Throttle Body.

I'd say to change everything at thi point, from brain to coils ... but make sure the distributor caps are good and how about coil wires, new too?

Darien, do what I do ... pull the other 86.5 (or one of them) up next to her and swap everuthing. This is how I found my dead ignition stage, by swapping piece-by-piece

Tony should have the injector tests down after he had his troubles swapping 24 and 30lb injectors. Check that gunked up plug again or even swap it with another plug. If #8 keeps getting gunked up you've narrowed down your problem.

The WSM has test procedures for the ignition stages, coils, wires, everything... I went through all that stuff without finding anything wrong. Then I had a flash of brilliance (when I shocked the **** out of myself with a coil wire with the car running). I had checked the rotor for the belt driven distributer, but not the other. The screw for the other rotor had sheared off.

When I got home last night, I checked under the hood and found that the flashes are coming from wires on the left (driver side)? It was 3Am so wasn't up for much Trouble shooting. Tony's coming over in a few and we'll resume.

Thumbs up

Tony and I spent the last 3 hours swapping parts and diagnosing the problem. I decided to start fom scratch and changed the plugs. THE ENGINE IS RUNNING SMOOTH!! Only time will tell now.

PS, the plugs we pulled out are approx 6-months old

Were they the wrong heat range, gap, material? From what I've read on Rennlist, 928s don't like platinum plugs. They should be Bosch or NGK copper.

My 944 (8v) liked plin copper bipole plugs but the 16v 944s loved the plat +4's.
