Default Manual Gearbox swap, what's needed?

I'm probably going to remove my old gearbox and install the new one in the next couple weeks and I'm trying to figure out what I will need so I can order it all in advance.
So far I have the following:
1. Gearbox Lube, Swepco?

2. New Half-shaft/CV joint bolts for inners

3. New ball/cup bushing for front of linkage

4. Possibly add a short shift kit.

What am I overlooking or what else would be prudent to change while I'm doing this job?

I do have access to a transmission jack so the physical removal & installation shouldn't be an issue, I'm more concerned with what I need that isn't outlined in the WSM's.

Thanks!

Check how the condition of the rubber cover over the rear shift linkage looks like.
Mine was toast when swapping my gearbox, it delayed the whole thing a week.
(on top of the TT where it connects to the gearbox)

Cheers/Peter

Good idea Peter!
I'm going to be replacing the shift cup bushing and installing a short-shift kit at the same time. I think the bushing is already toast because the shifter has quite a bit of play in it.

Keep the ideas coming!

I didn't want to point that out to him, but it is funny! I skim through posts and miss important details all the time!

Just did replace that front bushing on my -81 and what a difference that made to the feel in the shifter
Actually I replaced the rear when swapping out the old box but the new one has some play in it from start, biggest difference comes from the front.

I can't wait to get all of my projects done over the winter! The car will also be getting a complete S4 suspension and brake upgrade to get it ready for the track for next spring.

good luck changing out the shifter. for some reason, that is a huge pita. i couldn't do it on the first attempt, then used the dental floss method someone else here suggested.

Sure thought you meant you were swapping an auto for a manual...I don't know why, just a brain fart I guess. So much for the Evelyn Woods speed reading course.
Measure twice, cut once.
Read completely, then reply.
Got it!
