On a serious note, for those that want to touch up their bars that got scratched, the paint that matches perfectly is "X-O Rust" brand and the color is (no jokes please) "XO-14 Tractor Red". This paint is an Anti-Rust Enamel and was recommened by ADDCO. Pretty sure it is available at most hardware stores and for sure at "True Value" Hardware stores.
I'm surprised to hear about all the scratches everyone else experienced. Mine didn't get sratched at all. There was plenty of room to snake it in after dropping the cross member to the extent of the provided alignment bolts. Also...blazing hot red works fine for me
ive just had mine installed on the front of the 88 SE. it definitely is a lot flatter through turns than with the stock bar/ott droplinks combo. i like the red colour as well although fitment took some fiddling. we found that longer bolts were needed on the front and the bar is slightly shorter than stock as well. also the bolt holes needed some filing to allow the bolt all the way through. minor issues to be fair and the reduction in body roll really is substantial any update on the strengthening plates??
Very happy with mine..........FLAT is the word.....man this car handles well. It always did, but even as compared to my C4, this thing handles like it is on rails............especially at high speed.
Real nice Dave, and I tossed as much or more weight out of the nose than I added, because at the same time, I installed your modular crossover w/cats and tossed the airpump and old cats.....I am a happy camper.
matt, i found that the drop links are leaning in to make contact with the bar. is there a solution to this?? was driving a bit more last night and i think i want a rear bar too!
I have one on the front of my 1980 Euro S. It is a well made peice, all the parts, fittings and bolts needed were included. It is much heavier than the stock bar and much stiffer. I run 235/45 17's on the front and used to get a bit tire rub when cornering at speed. The bar flattened out the car and the rub is gone. My bar uses the middle hole for the link by the way. I had to move the rear adjustable drop links to the hardest position to keep the car balanced after the front bar went on. I am very pleased with the bar, the handling results and what I thought was a ver reasonable price
Nick, you probably ought to ask David about that. If you got a budget bar, it should be the exact same shape as stock. The standard bars are only slightly different shaped to avoid wide tires rubbing.
By Flying dog, Greg, Dave's bars are the stock thickness. He has front poly bushings that fit stock and his bars.
I have a set of Dave's front bushes, I was hoping given that Dave is a guy that really gets into the aftermarket supply biz that we would get a set that was purpose built for the fronts like the rears he is making. I had to take the die grinder to the fronts because they are close but not identical. The original brackets are superior in a couple ways to the aftermarket ones. This means that the bushes do fit but not in a way the originals do.
i have my bar set all the way stiff and i like it, you can feel the front being pushed more and there is more tension through the steering wheel. im happier thinking the car might understeer in any given turn rather than oversteer but i think curiosity will get the better of me and i will end up with a rear bar as well does anyone know at what point the mounts tear away from the body with the stiffer bar??
JK there! Seriously, I would wait for the bolt on reinforcement from DR to go along with the SwayBar if you're going to set it full bore! Until then, set it in the middle to be on the safe side.
