Default NA vs FI - if ya want torque off the line....

fwiw, thought I'd share what my old gal finally put out (the car, not the wife ).... uncorrected numbers, was about 90F or so, pretty low humidity, 1000' or so MSL... (higher res image on my shark site)

NO smog issues, no extra foo-foo stuff to make the car any harder to work on, overheat/blowup or tip off johnny law... actually rather boring to look at when her bonnet is off (unlike the wife).... no real mods to speak of... just some powdercoated stuff... hehehe....

kinda suprised w/all the hoopla about FI, that the FI torque numbers are so disappointing compared to a NA car w/a few tweaks... hehehehe..... (laughs as he tosses match into open pool of fuel at refinery and leaves )

guess we'll do a roll at LACR in the next few weeks, see what all those numbers really mean, although the only real question for me is if the tires will melt faster than my license....

I got 417 tq & 464 hp to the wheels for $6k... I guess there are a lot of different ways to look at it.

Bottom line, more power = more fun, so I guess we are all happy

Holy cow. You blew through my peak HP at a meandering 3700 RPM. I hope you own tire company stock.

there you go again jimbo - using that brain of yours to complicate things I actually had one of andy's kits on order and a blower sitting in my garage, but when I discovered my bottom end was shot, on top of everything else being totally worn out - it just tipped the tables the other way... so for me - it'd be $6k plus the new motor to build an FI beast...

the only stuff I really added beyond the std OH stuff was a $2300 crank (old crank needed nearly $1k of drilling/cleanup work anyway), larger/different valve seats, minor porting (old valves were pitted anyway and it was due for a valve job at 135K mi), some minor cam work and misc parts, ecu conversion/tuning (FI would've needed that anyway).... by using aftermarket pistons/nicom I saved an additional $1k vs using mahles and oem stuff, so the stroker was easy to justify vs an oem OH... then I sold most of the old parts to offset the costs, and that helped a bit too....

labor was a bit more for the stroker than a normal OH, but I don't think it was excessive compared to a normal OH... converting from an 85-89 spec added a bit, and so installation/conversion labor was more than anyone w/an 87 up MY car to make it a clean screaming mimi, but then it's got the latest/GTS whatever stuff everywhere too....

sitting for 19mos and having the 3 stooges mess w/everything while it was down was my biggest mistake... but I got REALLY lucky having someone that knows these things well enough to make short work of all the misc crap that it needed to be a no squawk machine again....

compared to a new sports car like has been done many times here - it's a bargain if you like sharks or older pcars - and can live w/out a cupholder... so it kinda depends on how you spin the numbers and how you compare stuff... for a simple HP bolt on for a motor that's healthy - IMO, what you did is a no brainer and I've often been quite jealous of the FI gang that live in free states...

but ya gotta work w/what ya got, it's 75 and sunny today here in socal, sharktoberfest is only 60min away, and I suppose winter might be coming someday - 65 and rain for 3 or 4 days... I'll try not to cry in my martini while I'm working on my tan this afternoon...hehehe...
