After 3 years of ownership, Im finally tracing down the only issue with my 85. It's a suspension noise. There's a "click" from under each wheel well when the suspension is exercised, say when crawling over a speedbump, or a certain angle pulling into a driveway. This same "click" is heard when I jack the car up. When I put it back down, it sits a bit high in the front, until it seems to settle once I move it.
The prior owner replaced all the bushings, struts, etc, in the front (receipts prove it), but still this noise.
Any tips on where I should start? Im guessing bushings overtightened?
Check the bushings on the end of each swaybar droplink, and the two bushings the swaybar rotates on. All should be tight. Check your wheel bearings. Should be no play. With the car on ramps, have someone wiggle the steering back and forth and look for play in the tie rods. Wiggle the tie rod ends on the rack up and down to check for play in those bushings. While watching the upper a-arm bushings, grab the tire at the 10:00 and 2:00 positions and wiggle, looking for movement in those bushings(Do this with car on the ground). Look for any indication that the shock bolts(3 ea. per shock, under hood) are loose. While in there make sure the crossbar between the fenders in front of the intake is tight.
That's not a comprehensive list of what can go wrong and cause a click from the front, but it will get you started and help narrow it down somewhat.
