disarming 928 alarm system
Dose anyone know how to bypass the alarm system on a 86 928 , I have a electrical problem and I need to eliminate the possibility that this is contributing to my problem, thank you.

Jump pins 1 to 6 on the Z-plug....if you can find it. In early cars, it's in the middle of lettered sockets on the lower part of the central electric panel. In later cars, like yours and my 89, it appears to be behind or on the back of the central electric panel. I've never seen it or a good picture of it. Anybody else?

Bill, although my car doesnt have the alarm, the connection was just above the mainfuse panel...behind the parcel tray i believe?
From what it looked like, the factory just placed a jumper lead between two terminal on the conector to by pass it .
I added a small toggle switch to the bypass lead and created an instant kill switch....hidden some where!

backnblack - I posted this last week: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ighlight=alarm
Dozman helped me out with some info he was sent by Wally! Basically, take off the glove-box, find the alarm control unit above, unplug the control unit and bridge the leftover plug terminals which were connected to the control unit terminals #15 and 87a
good luck!

Ah, I missed the resolution of that thread, Troy. I looked at the alarm module but wasn't sure if 15 to 87a would work. Did you find the source of your alarm's misbehavior? Mine turned out to be the hood pin.

hey Bill - no, I never found out what was causing my issue, but I do still plan to find out. I was at the point where it was driving me crazy and I just HAD to shut it off ASAP. When I have some time though, I'll hook it back up and methodically check everything.
Still wondering about that elusive Z plug for us post-84 owners though... Does it really exist or was it deleted? Hmmmm.

Matt-
Waht you really need to do is host a party at your house with lots of free beer and pizza and let us at it. I'm not saying we can get it started, but you won't have any more pizza or beer that's pretty much for certain.
Ideally you'd want to get Big Dave up there with his car as a refernce point. Although it was my magic fingers in his fuse panel area that got Big Dave's ride running again... must be the shrine
Let us know when you want to get together - I'm limited on weekends with my wife flying, but I can certainly try. BTW, my cell is 734-837-7908. Call me anytime.

this is the connector that the factory alarm joins to. Its above the fuse panel up near the 2 ground points there. My car doesnt have the alarm so the two wires at the bottom PINS 1 and 4 are joined together. If you want to put a kill switch in just add a switch to the loop.

There is no Z plug on any 928 after 1984. In 84 and earlier this was a standard plug on the bottom of the Central Electric Panel.
In 1985 the central electric planel was significantly revised - no
more plug Z.
It seems to have taken on a mythical status (hidden behind the panel...).
For 85 & on its just not there (anywhere!)
Instead the alarm connections are to the main CE plug connections - exact details vary by year. For 85 & 86 its Central Electric plug pins B23 & F25 that need to be linked to reenable the EZK/ignition.
