I gave my wife the gift that keeps on giving, a divorce. She wanted much more than the cost of my upgrades. Now I have upgraded and have a wonderful 20 year old girlfriend. No more barter deals, if I feel inspired to I will get her something. Last month I bought her a car for not alot of money, she was thrilled. If she leaves, I will be sad, sure. But she already thought about it and I said, hey, thats okay, I am not mad", and I meant it. Life goes on.
The thing that I am most happy about is the "no more blackmail" concept. Why can't they just be happy that you have a hobby and not a mistress? For all you guys out there still doing it, I will keep my fingers crossed.

No one is ever happy with someone else controlling your life.

If you want to spend money on a car, spend money on a car.

If she wants to spend money on clothes, she can spend money on clothes.

I understand either party getting mad if you are spending the mortgage or rent money on car stuff, or are in debt, etc... You have to take care of the basics. But after the bills are paid, people should spend their money on whatever makes them happy...

So I can assume there was no wheel bearings and such baking
in the oven. EVER.

The dishwasher as a parts cleaning apparatus is also probably a bad idea...

I tried that once. Some part on my 86.5 needed cleaning before refinishing and, to me, the dishwasher seemed like a good idea. Especially since my wife was at work and I had a few "free" hours. I figured that the normal dishwasher soap wouldn't be good enough so I used something else. I can't remember what it was, but whatever it was, it sure made a whole lot of suds. I started the washing process going and went back out to the garage to do something else. When I returned 20 minutes later the kitchen was awash in brown gooky suds. It took me forever to clean the mess. Yeah, she knew as soon as she returned home. I guess there was a smell left behind. She got over it, but I don't do that anymore and I have my own oven, and solvent tank, in the shop for car parts. My latest project is convincing my wife that I need a dyno. So far it's coming along well with her only comment being, "where are you going to get the money"? Trouble is, I know she wants an SUV and she won't drive anything but a German car. I've been dilligent over the years to instill in her that Porsche's are superior vehicles to anything else never thinking that there would be a P car SUV.

Well, all women are not like that. My wife has never said that I can't have that or she must get this before I can have that. When we had been married for one year, with first child on the way I bought a new 911. She thought it was fine. Her parents were upset, but she was not.

That was the first of five sports cars I have owned over the years. If I got reluctant about a purchase and discussed it with her, she was always the one who said, go ahead if you really want it.

Don't misunderstand. We are not so rich that any of these cars amounted to a trivial purchase.

We've been married for 40 years. Maybe this is why.

Same here. If I mention a supercharger, my wife wants to order it. For you other guys, maybe it's time to buy her that little leather dress and whip she has always wanted. Could be fun, if you let it.

I'm a lucky guy. My wife is insisting we build a garage addition with a twelve-foot ceiling and a two-post asymmetrical lift for my toys.

If we have any money left over after that project, I'll buy her something freakin' spectacular. Not because she expects it, but because she deserves it.

Boy the can of worms is open now....but heres the way I look at it
Since I make a third more than my wife if I want something and the bills are paid Im gonna buy it.
For years she was on me...."we need to open a savings account"....as Ive told her the 928 "is" a savings account.....every penny I put in it I can get out of it and then some...its got collector car insurance and as its value goes up the "agreed value" will go up.
Since I have brought it back from the dead "salvage car" and traded my 914 straight across to obtain it including the body parts to fix it......no borrowed money.....no cash ever changed hands... so as I slowly make it better and better it just gets bettter and better....
Now you guys that bought em with credit and then fix em with credit it seems thats a little differant...way different I guess....
I havent really spent any money on the shark since I got it......the loaded V8 Jeep she drives it cost plenty....400 month payment...plus insurance plus expensises......I think If I put 400 month into the shark....wow! it would be sweet in no time.....
Also I got real lucky as my wife doesnt spend any money....gotta force her to buy new clothes...and shes really into shoes....I mean shes got at least 3 pairs of high heeled f-me shoes.....that has to be plenty
Now we come to the "new" supercharger........when I saw that I showed it to her and told her when they get the 16 valve sc done and if the price is right......I may get a loan against the car and get one
sure she bitched....but really its none of her her concern...its my money...its my car...too bad Im a grown up...kinda sorta
This brings me to another thing.....I know lotsa guys that work and their wifes do not....they make the money bring home and the wife takes and spends its....loads up the mini van with crap every week...and still makes him mow the yard etc...that dog dont hunt...no way....
As you guys know when they divorce you they are gonna get half.....well when my wife makes half she can have half until then....she gets what her third can get her after expences
So when is that 16v sc gonna hit the market?????? As soon as I get my leather redone and a respray
I will be in the market......

My wife not only tolerates my shark habit, she encourages it!

She has learned that the secret to keeping a man happily married is very simple - because we men have pretty simple needs from marriage. They are:

1. Have sex with us - enthusiastically.

2. Feed us.

3. Let us do at least one guy thing.

She understands that the Porsche is my guy thing.

The funny thing is... Because she is so generous in her support of the Porsche, I can't help being equally generous when she wants something for the home. So my supercharger will wait until we finish some kitchen and bedroom remodeling. But I know she won't whine if I want one down the road.

It's quite amazing how well it works if each partner in a marriage, instead of insisting that his or her own needs are met first, concentrates instead on meeting the needs of the spouse first. If you've married a decent person, the favor will generally be returned. And the kinda cool thing is, that type of attitude tends to be perpetuated over and over again.

Then you become loving partners instead of opponents in a tug-of-war. And sadly, the attitude of being opponents in a tug-of-war tends to be perpetuated ad infinitum as well.

Does require an initial leap of faith, though.

I am lucky my girlfriend is a car nut herself. She owns a '30 Ford model A cab, and her family has model T's and some others. And she started riding motorcycles. She will come to all the shark events and has fun doing it.
Because she's used to old cars breaking down, nothing bothers her when the 928 has an off day. She's the best!!

Hi Carl and his MEAN black 928.
Any S.O. who'd stand on the breakdown lane of Rt. 81 with trucks and cars blowing by
at 60+mph in the pouring rain and be holding the umbrella/flashlight and handing
you tools is a KEEPER.

Didn't fluster her a bit. And she had a great time at SITM.

Hope you got all the crud or whatever it was out of the fuel system.

The discussions at our house don't go near the car money. They are more tuned to time and space allocations. "Just take it and have it fixed!" is very popular. She's constantly looking at stuff that needs storage space; "We'll keep it in the garage!" "In the space where your car usually parks?" is often my answer.

She bought a new 4-Runner a while ago, ran the cost up with warranties, paint treatments, etc at the dealer. All so I wouldn't have to do anything to it except wash it. $Thousands for that comfort... I discuss replacing the old Explorer with a Lexus RX, she says to get the hybrid so she can drive it, and I'll have the 4-Runner. We'd looked at the RX for her before the 4-Runner, but it wasn't big enough. Npw that our friends have Mercs and Lexii, she has decided that a the RX would be a good choice for her... So no new Lexus just yet. I'm thinking black with light grey, she wants it to be white with blue inside.

In her favor, I have a blank check for just about any toy or accessory I want. A 2-post lift has been blessed, but I'm the one who's waffled. Turns out that I'm the cheap half of this pair.

No worries here, she's a keeper.
