Leaking roof on a non-sunroof S4
Anybody else experienced a leaky roof, that wasn't the sunroof's fault?
The odd thing is, I can drive through the pouring rain and not get dripped on, but if the car sits out in the rain, it drips slowly. Furthermore, when I initially drive the car after a rainy night, and I turn the first corner, about half a cup pours on my leg or gear shifter (depending which direction I turn), from between the headliner and the window. After that it's fine.
Any ideas how to fix that?

Possibility it is the rear hatch weather seal. Maybe the water is pooling in the headliner? These are known to leak due to age and compression at the top edge of the hatch.

Are you saying your car doesn't have a sunroof?
If you do have a sunroof, have you checked the drains at the trailing edge of the roof where they drain into the channel along the hatch? If those are clogged water will back up and drain into the passenger compartment on your head.
If you don't have a sunroof.......I give up.

My 83 /n osunroof had exact same symptoms. I pulled off the windshield moulding and could see spots where the sealant was inadequate. Added some silicone- marginal improvement. Tried to get professional help- glass shops said 'go to a body shop', body shops said 'go to a glass shop'. I'm just going to deal with it for now.

Hi try this , remove the rear hatch seal get some silicone sealant the non setting type I use the 111 moisture barrier/ rubber lubricant, i am not shure of the MFG. fill the seam in the weather strip, I do this by filling a syringe with the stuff and injecting it into the seam, then reinstall also make shure to press the rubber channel back together so it will be tight when you reinstall the rubber.
It looks like the factory did the same thing if you look into the seal you may see some sort of dried out stuff that looks white and clumpy, i believe that this was the factory sealant, Stan

A friends 83 S2 had a leak from the rear hatch screen sealant, only way find it was a sh*t load of talcum powder, but when somethings bugging you bad-the clean up time doesn't matter!!!

Another possibility is the hinges themselves -- there should be a thin rectangular gasket between each hinge and the roof. If these are missing or worse yet wrinkled(providing a leak path), water will get in. I took the extra step of putting RTV in the bolt holes as well. I eventually replaced the hatch gasket too, but only because it was buggered up at the bottom, allowing water to drip in behind the tool tray. Even though it was deformed at the top and had debris trapped against it, it didn't leak at the top. YMMV
