Question Rear Muffler Upderfixen

What do you recommend that I do with my rear muffler before reinstalling it on the car?

My car only had about 25 or 30k miles on it when I installed my RMB. It was soooooo long ago, I cannot remember whether I had ordered from 928 specialists or 928 International.

My wife used to autocross with me a number of year ago and I would like to take her to the track with me. The sound of the X + RMB is probably a bit intimidating for her for a first DE day so I am thinking about reinstalling my rear muffler so save my dear bride's ears.

As I have enjoyed my RMB, the originial rear muffler has been carelessly stored - but never left outdoors. Lord know what kinds of vermin may have taken residence in there since it was put out of commission in @ 1997. It could probably use some sort of internal cleaning but I have no idea what to do. Is there some kind of muffler enema? Shop Vac???

Please help if you have wisdom/expertise in this area.

Thanks!

Reinstall it onto the car. The first few revs ought to encourage any vermin to exit post haste. Unless you have a squirrel's nest in there, there isn't much to worry about.

Shake it first to see if there is anything loose, like a mouse nest, inside. Then shake it with the openings down. Do it both ways just to be safe. This should get anything that resided in there out. The final “cleaning” will come after installations. The exhaust gases will definitely blow out whatever is left over in there! )

I hopehtis helps!

Take a few big swigs of Jack, then pour a full glass into the muffler. The cute little guys won't mind and it's sure to be a humane way of sedating them before their eardrums take a beating.

James...........I'll be doing the same exercise this weekend for the exact same reasons.

My original rear muffler has been in my quonset/barn for the past 3~4 years..........it'll be interesting what shakes/blows out

Buy her some ear plugs ...the loud exhaust is a learning tool makes it easier to know when to shift. when you are on the gas etc. besides with a helmet on and no walls nearby to bounce back the sound it should be fine if not then earplugs.

Jim that is exactly my beef with the quiet S4 exhaust. I need to hear, I don't have time to look at a rev counter. And that's on the street

Funny, it occurred to me last weekend that an earplug in only my left ear might improve my comfort.

How do DE safety chairs feel about student drivers with earplugs in? Huh? Wha? Turn in where? What? Mack out? What? Oh, Trackout! Trackout!

Thanks guys. No worries then.

If hear any squeaking when I shake it, I'll make sure to contact my local PITA representative for an ethical eviction technique.

James, if you can speak over the engine, there will be no problem hearing you with earplugs. Just less pain and no headaches.
