Default Dummy in Mustang!!

Okay I'm going to work this morning (2nd job to pay for the 928!) cruising along at about 80 in the fast lane on the freeway behind a soccer mom in a minivan...traffic is not too bad, but can't get around the minivan...so I'm just following it...I see a red mustang coming flying up in the middle lane...there is not enough room to cut me off...(so I thought) so I keep going...moron in the mustang (complete with a bunch of www.mustangclub.com & other stickers all over it) cuts me off and starts tailgating the minivan really bad! Typical of an idiot...he gets stuck behind the minivan (who slows down to **** him off!) and the car that he almost hit in the middle lane goes just fast enough that he can't pass...I drop back...move to the slow lane and slowly (maybe 90) drive away...eventually mustang moron gets clear and comes after me...yea right....I let him gain on me....he reaches about my rear bumper....stand on it...BWAAAHHH he is gone...so I look in the mirror and wave bye bye to him....come back when you don't have so many stickers on your car moron!!! I slow for my exit...he goes flying by & I notice he didn't even have a V8....it was a 6 cylinder....what a dumbass! Still it was fun!

yeppers ... alpha males and the need for speed. I think what happens is that when you know you can do something -- like in a 928 and you can blow practically everyone off the road -- you don't actually NEED to do so.

Well, maybe occasionally like this time ...

Good Job!

Cheers,

Better hope you don't come by a 2003 or 2004 SVT Cobra. He will flat eat your lunch bone stock. Get a power pulley on the damn thing and he will walk the dog on most supercharged 928's up to about 140mph. They are fast damn cars. For less than 2k you can get almost 500 hp.

I'm doing my dyno runs in a Mustang shop (Mustang cars, Dynojet dyno). These guys will put a turbo on a Mustang for about 12 cents and make 450 HP. They've got an 1100 HP dragster sitting there that keeps trashing its rear body work and front suspension. They're putting nerf bars on it just so they can dial it in without flipping it over backwards!

Most of the SVT cars are fast, especially the blown mustangs.... This wasn't the case...no wonder I thought that stang was so slow! I guess a bunch of stickers don't make your car any faster!

If you want to go fast in a straight line or like drag racing...mustangs are a good choice...cheap to make big power....but its still a just a mustang!

You're wrong. I have owned 65 HiPro Fast Back and a 67 coupe. Even in a straight line they were a handful. The worst front ends of any car I have ever owned. I still love em though.

I just must say that I once learned something in traffic school. Awhile back I was sitting in traffic school doodling and the "instructor" asked what the best remedy was for tailgaters. Of course some guys blurted out things like "Shoot 'em !", and "Slam on the brakes !!". Those weren't acceptable answers. The correct answer was.....
lift and slowly reduce speed until the moron decides to go around you. I thought about it. It IS the correct answer. It eliminates several potential problems simply and cleanly and "the problem" disappears from your life because it is now ahead of you. The only time I may increase speed is if someone is shadowing me in an adjacent lane and won't go away, but often I just brake and let him blow past me and then resume my life without him.

I no longer flip people off, slam on the brakes, or get into death matches with anybody. You can save lives by the judicious use of the brake pedal.

Yeah right. Smug is sending 400rwhp+ through my 315s and knocking 'em dead!

One can only hope.
Anything over 100mph in my 'classics' and it felt like the front was floating. I had my '65 up to 120 a couple of times and 110 a bunch and my knuckles always turned white in the middle of the experience.

Even my 86' Mustang GT which was prepped for autocross would try to take off at 140/150mph. It would turn 13.9 quarters warrenty legal and top out in the high 150's but there was no real directional control. You set up for corners about a half mile early at speed, the car might respond by then.

We work on a friends 2003 Cobra that puts down over 425rwhp locally and it a real blast to drive in a straight line. As far as cornering, it feels like a Ford Ranger Pickup. The shifter is in the wrong location, you sit really high and the brakes (even on the Cobra) are less than stellar.

The earliest Mustangs were rebodiesd Ford Falcons at heart, so no wonder they were a little weak on handling and braking at that time. Fords vision of that car was as a secretary's sport coupe with all the reliability and muscle of the Falcon. A very few were based on the Falcon Sprint driveline, with the 260V8. Still had wimpy brakes.

By a few years later, the muscle had improved some but the chassis was the same as the Falcon/fairlane/comet/montego. You could get disk brakes on the front as an expensive option. Even the 428CJ and the Boss 429 (with the Nascar Hemi) Mustangs came standard with front drums. Most of those buyers stepped up to disks, but not that many of the lesser cars. Meanwhile, the wider V8's in the tiny engine bay meant that control arms were very short and handling less than perfect. Leaf-spring rear end, short wheelbase, lotsa power for the weight, and the cars were 'fun' to drive mostly because they were such a handfull at the limit... and that was a low limit.

By the time the ultimate Mustang showed up, the '74 Mustang II, the car was smaller, heavier, more cramped, and got very poor mileage, especially with the V8 option. Almost killed the brand, I hear. It took a bit of effort to get the styling, handling and braking back to world standards, but Ford has worked diligently at it to get to where they are today. They've come a long way!

Cobras are dogs up until the 04 SC models.

Totally unimpressive cars IMO.
