Recommendations for a Maintenance Shop in the East Bay
Help!!! My 1984 928S stopped running in the drive way. The engine turns over. We have spark going to the spark plugs, We have fuel pump pushing fuel. But we do not have ignition. I have been working with Jim Bailey from 928 International trouble shooting what we can over the phone. We are both at a lost. Can anyone suggest or recommend a good Porsche shop in the Walnut Creek, Concord area of Northern California that knows the 928S. Looks like I need to take it in for more trouble shooting as it may be a wiring or ground problem. Please let me know if anyone can provide me with a good shop to go to in my area.
Thank you!
Robert

Robert:
Try German Auto Clinic, Inc. 2040 N. Main Street #11, Walnut Creek, 925/944-0240. The guys there are pretty sharp. They worked on my MBZ 6.9 and they are familar with 928. The owner/operator, Jose Lara, is a straight shooter. If you had posted yesterday I would have come over and helped you figure this out. Work gets in the way today.
The fact that it runs on carb cleaner points to a fueling issue. Maybe a dampner membrane or check valve broke, but I think it should still start.

Where is Bills Garage? Would you possibly have an address or number for me to call? Brain is good. Fuel pumps to engine can smell fuel if I turn over the engine too long. One point you do make is the gas being too old. I have had it sitting in the garage since it stopped on me two years ago. The fuel was never changed out. I am at a point to let a good mechanic tell me at this point.
Thank you for your reply.

Change out the bad fuel and fuel filter. Also, the injectors could be gummed up as well.
BTW, Bill's Garage is Bill Ball (see reply #3) He has been known to make house calls

Brian is being funny. So, this car has not run in 2 years. If you can wait until this weekend, I can come over. No guarantees, but maybe we can get it going or at least find the source of the no start. If not, the garage I mentioned earlier should be able to handle it.

OK Brian got me on that one. I can certainly be patient and wait for your assistance. Having someone who is more familiar with this awsome machine will be very helpful. I can not tell you how much I would appreciate your help. If anything I suspect I will learn a lot more about the car as I have with Jim Bailey. I did give the garage you mentioned a call and they sounded very knowledgeable of the 928S they just haven't seen one around in a while. How should I make contact with you for this weekend? It would be great knowing other 928 enthusiast in my area such as yourself. Thank you for offering to help I look forward to meeting you and learning more from someone who's been there.
Best Regards,
Robert

Hmm
So what is the procedure for an "old gas" problem car? I heard gas goes bad in about 60 days without an additive? I wonder if there is an additive that will help run the old gas out of the car without having to drain it? No sense in changing the fuel filter to just run the old gas through it?
