The 16V twin turbo system is far from dead...contact me and we can discuss.

All well and good, but unless someone comes up with a transaxle and driveline build that can take some serious power, you will always be somewhat limited in the power to the wheels. At the rate you are going at 8 psi you will be over 450ft/lb. My old TT 4.5L car was the fastest car I have ever owned at 12psi, including my 11-1 Pantera.

Put on some sticky tires and take it to the track with 500 ft/lb of torque and you are going to break multiple gearboxes IMO.

multi-stage boost controllers are very smooth these days. 4.5psi in 1st gear is too much anyway, & almost too much for 2nd gear. Wheel spin prevents too much load on the box. Besides, a turbo or Sc is much smoother on the gearbox than a stroker, esp. considering the "stabbing" necessary at track events. If Mark Anderson can get a couple of years out of each gearbox with 450rwtq (or more), with his extreme-event driving, we're all pretty safe in our street machines making the same or even a little more. I think this "fragile gearbox thing" is a bit overhyped....look who's breaking them, look who's not. Have a great weekend!

Had the Callaway out yesterday...still a super fast ride...and I'm not done yet. I do beleive the driveline can handle over 550 HP. If the hot sides are sized large enough the boost won't build too fast...then there is the ability to cockpit adjust, leave it at 6 lbs with the ability to turn it up to 12-15 psig from the cockpit. I envision my dial having pre-marked settings...911 turbo-8 psig, Viper GTS- 9Psig, Z06 9psig, Crotch Rocket-15 psig. Scrap metal-24psig.

I plan to 1/4 mile the car Wednesday night, so I'll post video's of both the run & the dyno soon after. Low-boost, no IC on both, so this is a good "worst" case for the kit.

Run #3 showed 281HP before the turbo installation. That's NOT stock.

With a chip and exhaust, 281rwhp is achievable on an '86. We've seen it here in Seattle.

Shane, in your case it's the royal "we" ... speaking of which, those chips seem to make my baby run a bit rich. Up the mountain, the cats got plenty hot.

I've been soliciting dyno runs showing the stock configurations, but have not downloaded Winpep yet to be able to show a "typical" before after. Most guys i figure already have chips & some exhaust modifications, which is why I showed my "typical" before/after runs.

What kinda chips do you have anyway?

Mark's baseline with chip + exhaust is in the same range as yours. His exhaust modifications are presumably more significant than a RMB).

My Chip + RMB was between 271 and 272 SAE wheel HP.

It looks like Shane has some secrets.

No secrets just a stronger than normal engine. I believe Curt got similar numbers from his 86.5 5sp. The chips I have are just copies of the AA chips.

100% stock 1985 with 85k miles, engine and drivetrain like new. Pretty much as if a new 1985 car were on the rollers.

H's numbers would be on an automatic (and the car is not even broken in yet )....

Curt's car (86.5 5-sp) did post 280ish....on one of his dyno sessions, however, that is with the Ott X in place. Not sure if there were any other mods (engine wise) than that....
Most of the stock 85/86 5-speeds we see on the dyno run from 250 to 270hp ...Shane's (281hp) being the exception for nearly stock...

I do believe I have heard that the US 85/86 were the most underrated numbers published by Porsche..as most dyno better than factory (288 Crank...so 245 rwhp 5-sp..and 230hp AT..using 15% loss for manuals and 20% for ATs)..

Later,
Tom

Thanks Tom for clearing that up! Wasn't sure what Curt had for mods.
