With a statement like "..3" above the door bumper rail. " every brain, relay, electric, motor fan was under water plus very likely water got into the engine and possibly the transmission. This car is done ! Especially if salt water. The wiring harness is perhaps the least of the problems. If you have ever gone fishing in salt water and neglected to rinse off your rod and reel you know what it looks like two weeks later... I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Trying to fix the car probably would simply prolong the pain. You opted to self insure by having only liability insurance which over the long run is better financially but in the short term does not always work out well .

That really sucks.... I wouldn't write it off without a very detailed once or maybe twice over being as your not going to get any insurance money out of it. If you have the space, time and patience it might be worth rebuilding from the ground up.

DO NOT let insurance auction it (unless you are there to bid on it.) You know the value of parts of the car as parts... After haggling about its "totalled" value, include haggling your buy-back of it. Then, if you don't want to redo it, sell it whole or parts. You'll recoup more.
They will total it, as the water reached into the interior, seat foam etc, etc, etc. Unless, of course, you will accept less.
Go luck as if yours was super clean - but being repainted - they aren't going to offer fair value. Insurance companies are going to be very, very difficult to deal with in these mega billion dollars worth of claims and "what about my Porsche" is something they know a jury would not be particularly sympathetic of.

WICruiser perhaps to understand the magnitude of this problem consider filling your bath tub full of water then pour in a lot of salt . Go to the kitchen and grab the toaster ,microwave ,blender, electric mixer ,can opener, radio and TV set and toss them into the tub then add your computer to the mix dump in your gas powered lawn mower full of oil and fuel . Now how long would it take you to get all of those functioning correctly and reliably? Flood damage is perhaps the worst because often the car does not LOOK too bad. I feel quite bad for Brent but I am not going to suggest that the car can or should be saved even though we probably have nearly all the parts he could possibly need to fix it.

State Farm Insurance alone was said to have some 79,000 Katrina auto claims already. Most insurance companies total the car if water gets above the door sills. Many of the insurance companies may demand that the flood cars be declared none recoverable junk in an attempt to keep them from being put back on the road. Louisiana law requires that flood damage be fully disclosed before a car is sold but the concern is that many salvaged cars will be shipped out of state.

I know the shops insurance probally doesn't cover it, but I would HOUND them, the govt alone is thinking billions, if you search hard enough you'll find some govt. agentcy who will help you. Some car dealerships down there lost there entire inventory- are demanding that all are replaced by us, id rather my tax dollars go to helping out a fellow shark owner than replacing some pos esclade's and plasma tv's you know. sorry to hear about your loss and good luck with what ever happens.

My Shark swam home Sunday. Thank you Pizza and Abby, for the help in trailoring the car home. The water doesn't look like it was salty nor was it quiet as deep as I had though. Now come the fun part! I'll post some pictures soon.

It looked better than I expected. And if anyone can bring her back, it is you! Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
