I do hope that the 'ricer' comment was a joke, not everyone with a Japanese car is a ricer. There are a LOT of folks putting down very good numbers on Supra's, Skyline's, MR2's, Z's without looking like extra's from the cast of The Fast and The Furious.

As SharkSkin stated, tuning for 91 would seem to be wise so everybody can play.
I couldn't agree more. The engine has to last (and last and last and last)...

Some persons in this thread have still got PSI "boost" confused with MASS AIRFLOW (KG's/min or #'s/Min)
You can make MORE power with MORE AIRFLOW at a lower Pressure (PSI) any given day of the week. Simple thermodynamics guys... The heat in the charge comes from the "compression of the air molecules" nothing else.. The air moves way too fast to conduct heat from the hot side of a turbo, or other engine parts..
As far as the engine lasting... hmmmmmmm..... No issue if built properly..

John,As one of the 2 people who rode in Goldmember at SITM, I tip my hat to you. Don't let the SC crowd get you down. That was one awesome machine you built. And I can say this......It would definitaly eat up and spit out my 87 S-4. If you have not ridden in a TT928, you are missing out. It pulls, and pulls and begs you to unleash it. What a rush. That is about as much power as you can put to the road and really use, anymore and.........well, the twisties could be a problem. Can't wait to see how the S-4 project comes out. Best of luck.

Turbos do not build boost based on RPM, they build boost based on load and exhuast gas volume.
Spin a motor at 7k rpm, if it has no load, a turbo will build no boost. Conversely, even at a low 3000rpm if the engine is under maximum load the turbo will build maximum(or close to it) boost.

As a member of the SC crowd, let me say that I too am a fan of your work John, the last engine you built was a work of art.....I am also looking forward to your next project......I especially like the way you finish what you start.....
My guess is that you are a hoot to get drunk with and a pain in the *** to work for....

30 psig is a lot of boost for anything. I run a 5-cyl on 24 psig with the stage III Lehmann software. It is sick fast for 2.2 liters, I'd say about 320 HP up on top. It runs a log cast iron manifold that has yet to let me down. MTM tells me they have made over 400 HP with these cast manifolds and they hold up. The point here is you don't need tubular equal length stainless steel headers to build the power, certainly not when you have 5.0 liters and your driveline won't hold the mega power anyway. 1000 HP can easily be had on a V8 with log style units. It is all a judgement call, it has to fit, last and provide performance. Cast iron wins here almost every single time. The RS2 piece is a Lehmann design that was used on many competitive urS4 Audis over the years. I'd take a low boost bigger displacement engine over a tiny mega boost detonator any day. Those boost levels are very hard on parts.
Point taken on the 91 Octane...but realize California fuels are crap by comparison to the good stuff.
Ahhh...Sintered metal forged rods, don't think those will hold a candle to real work hardened forgings...different animal altogether.
