I used the new Porsche PET that is a CD-ROM with all the files stored in PDF format. It is great. The graphics are as good or better than the old PET, you can explode the views, and you can search on part numbers. The best for me is it works at lower screen resolutions then the previous versions so it works on laptops. For those who have less storage space, you only need four PDF docs that cover all the 928 years, you don't need to have the data for all of the other Porsches stored on your system.
It is called the Originalteile - Katalog / Genuine Parts Catalogue
PDF-Format
Technical data status August 2004
Teilenummer 00004340005
Too bad the servcie manuals are not available in this format.

One rumor says Porsche is working on converting WSM's to digital format. According to one source some early 911 manuals are ready already. Hopefully it will happen.

Just wanted to make sure that everyone knew that the Parts Catalog is available from us (and probably from the other vendors as well!). It is listed under "Literature" in the on-line store - $9.99 plus shipping.

One neat thing I also like about this version is that not only can you search by Part # (which you can also do in PET), you can also search by a name or text string. For example you can search for "axle" and it will show you every page that has that phrase on it. Very handy!

If you are talking about the real interactive PET version make sure your screen resolution is set to 1280x1024. If it is set at that and you are still having problems, and the 2 computers are networked. then copy the Pet folders from the W2K computer to the XP computer and it should work. I have heard of someone that has PET who has done this successfully a few times :-)

DR, that parts catalog CD you sell is PET (6?) in PDF format?
My PET5 CD came with a text file detailing how to get around that. DR said what I remember of it, but I think there was one more step. I'll look for the CD.
edit: here are the directions on my CD

Hi, Welcome to the un-authorised version of PET.
This version should run on Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98/ME
and Windows NT 4.0/2000
A couple of things worth noting:-
1) - This program will only run on a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 or greater.
2) - To enable the prices within the catalogue, rename the file
"preis.sav" found in the "pet_root" directory to "preis.e"
- This is for the "England" country version. These prices
are only a guide, don't trust them !
3) - When printing you may have to edit the "ETKA_PO.INI" file found in the
Pet_Prog directory to set the correct paper size for your country by
removing the # before the correct entry and placing a # before "Paper=A4".
4) - If using on Windows 2000, the installer may detect the operating sysem as
Windows 95, and load the wrong files, simply copy the contents of the
PET_PROG.NT4 directory, except the INI files, onto your local hard disk
overwriting the existing ones.

The PDF files are great. I was in Colorado for a few days (got back yesterday) and happened to have the PDF file for my '90 -- 928_USA_87_91_KATALOG.PDF -- on a CF card in my iPAQ PDA. Adobe Reader was installed on the PDA, too, so I was able to look some parts stuff up on my PDA! Really cool (although a little hard to scroll around in on the PDA's little 240x320 pixel screen).

I have few of those 928 PET PDF's in Nokia 9210 Communicator along with Commodore C64 emulator.
It's unbelievable how far computer technology has advanced in 20 years.
