Sniper: What modifications are we supposed to see - particularly on the exterior. All I see is phone dials with darker centers. Anything else? Maybe you can deit your post and add a quick rundown, so people won't have to scroll around to find it.

Brian B: A Chopster is a 928 chop top that's lowered to the ground more than reasonable. Needs hydraulics to lift it back up for driving. Only exists in Photoshop...

I recently got pissed off with my Pioneer DEH-225 cd player. This "stereo" was installed by the PO [another reason for me to hate him!] and was essentially an electronic wheel chock. It did play CD's, but that was about all I could say for it.

I had my iPod rigged to play through 88.9 FM, my attempt at maintaining my sanity on the cheap. The only problem: I had to literally pull over any time I wanted to change songs- the iPod was in the center arm rest and it was nearly impossible/extremely dangerous to try to drive while changing songs. Not the best situation.

"That's a Porsche 928 out there in the garage; Why the hell am I being so damn cheap about things?" I said to myself one day last month, while staring at my laptop with someone's high-dollar stereo install detailed for me. I literally walked down the to car, and pulled the barely-intact stereo from its mountings and threw it in the garbage can! Then I went to Circuit City and picked up a Pioneer DEH-6700MP CD player and a Pioneer CD-IB100 iPod bus controller. Total cost was about $360, and it took about four hours to install everything.

The install wasn't bad- really the worst part was figuring out which wire went to which speaker. Once I had that down, the rest was a breeze. I installed the buss controller in the arm rest, where my iPod had been residing, and it left enough room to keep the iPod itself there as well. The cord they gave me is way too long, and temporarily I have it coiled up in the console- I plan on pulling the screws and mounting the extra cord in the 1/4 inch space underneath.

Sound quality is WAY better than before, though that's really not saying much. WHAT sucks is that this system is NOT user friendly. Ido not recommend anybody buy this combination of stereo and buss for their car. On the iPod, if you wish to find a song, you page through the "genres", then the artists...and finally you select your song. The Pioneer head unit will not find artists- it only knows genres, and from that you have to page through each individual song until you find what you want. And it is done alphabetically by the first word of the song- so you find yourself frustrated, pushing the button from song to song looking for what you want. The display is cool, with some decent graphics, but if you set it up to display the song name...it can only display the first dozen letters or so. What the hell? It can show a decent graphic of a dozen dolphins swimming as a school in the Sargasso sea...but it can't even display the complete name "Circle In The Sand" by Belinda Carlisle!

I wired my Ipod directly into the pre ins on my Nakamichi, and have it mounted on the right side of the center console near the AC temp orifice.. I cansee it much more clearly now... I should probably post a pic..

I had similar reservations on driving and Ipod Tuning.... bad for S4 health... mine too..!

I thought about mounting the iPod on a stalk next to the console, but I don't like the way that looks. Also, it makes the car vulnerable to thieves- even if the iPod is in your house, the stalk might encourage someone to break in. I'm convinced the solution is a head unit that can control the iPod, but this particular unit is definitely not it.

-For my next trick, I'm planning on having real leather covers made for the mirrors, to replace the silly vinyl ones I have right now.

Hello all,
This is my '79. It was originally "burnt orange" I believe this was called camel. The thought of driving in traffic everyday in what looked like the inside of a basketball just wasn't appealing. So I changed the carpet to black, dyed the rear seats and consoles, and installed new front seats to match. I also put in one of Carl's shorty shifters, white face guages, and a Momo "dino" 4 spoke 14" wheel.

- door and center compartments are lined with genuine suede
- Ostrich and wood steering wheel
- Custom ostrich and wood shifter based on a Jager shifter
- Ostrich shifter full booth
- Redesigned center console
- Integrated GPS and audio with 7" touch screen
- Custom wood and leather, lighted door sills
- Ostrich hand brake
- LED interior lighting

I'm working on the dash, center console body and seats right now.
