Quickest 928 on the planet
#19
Top end there's no doubt that would easily be the fastest 928 ever.
I doubt it would stay together for a whole flying mile, but if it did, i'm sure it would easily exceed 300mph.
A 4.63 1/8 mile is equivelant to a 6.44 quarter mile ET.
To run a 6.44ET you're talking about a trap speed in the general vicinity of 240mph(probably higher).
Assuming a curb weight of 2500lbs(no driver) with a 6.44ET, that gives an approxomate crank HP of 2500, and a RWHP of approx 1960.
LOL...i want one.

Well Patrick. I have not been a fan of the Chevy conversions. In fact I'm not a fan of Chevy anything. But after reading your website I have come to a new appreciation for the hybrids. I never imagined that a small block chevy could be 100 lbs lighter than an all aluminum 4.7L Porsch engine. And the fact that you don't have a biga$$ blower sticking out of the hood really helps me to like it more too. So as long as I never take a ride in one I should be able to restrain myself from actually wanting to tackle that project. I'll bet its alot of fun to drive. And it looks very nice too.

It just sits...
Thanks! It was a CrAzY, all-consuming project.
It just sits in the garage. What a shame. Once every couple of months, I take it
out and drive about 10 miles around the back-country roads near my house.
The problem for me is that I'm afraid there's going to be a cop around every
corner. And it's so hard to drive it "easy". I mean, it's so much fun to punch it,
that I end up punching it at just about every opportunity while driving it. It really
makes me drive too aggressively. And I don't mean aggressively with a lack of
respect to other motorists; I mean aggressively as in getting sideways on an
abandoned road while rowing through 2nd and 3rd gear up to about 80 in, like 5 seconds.
The acceleration scares me so much that I never take my eyes off
of the road to check to see how fast I'm going.
Just the thought of pulling the key for it off of my key rack gets my adrenaline
pumping!
So, for the most part, even after all that work, it just sits in the garage.
Every day I think about how to change that.

I wouldn't consider it snobby. I just always looked at those chevy hybrids as a cheap way out. Just like I feel that nitrous is a cheap way to make HP. Almost borderline cheating. That comes from the guy who I used to help with the drag car. He was old school and totaly against nitrous and also a die hard Ford fan. Chevy's are cheaper to build but we only ran Fords. Until I bought my 928 I had never owned anything that wasn't Ford. But after reading Evil's website I think my mind may have opened a little. And before Sniper decides to jump on my a$$, the nitrous kits were nowhere near as reliable back then as they are today.

Sure have to do a lot of work on an SBC to make horsepower.
Everyone time I see a transplant SBC in something and the person then boasts of SBC motors,
actually what they are showing is proof of its inferiority. The intake and exhaust manifolds,
entire intake, usually rods, cam, pistons, timing belt and gear, and ignition all have been replaced.
The only thing that actually is "Chevy" is the block (often reworks), the crank (also reworked)
and maybe the heads and valves - for which they explain they want to buy this brand or that
aftermarket heads and different/larger valves, rockers and push rods.
While claiming the horsepower level proves the worth of SBCs, the motor they are boasting
of prove the exact opposite.
They are not really SBC motors. They are motors built out of parts to replace all the bad
SBC parts - which are generally all the parts.
Whether it is a "Porsche" or not is just a word. It is a 928 chassis with a motor built out of parts bins.
Imagine if the same $$ had been spent building up a 928 motor? Then they would really have something unique (and potent).
