Someone is trying to scam perhaps. Got email from eBay:

"You expressed interest in an item titled "Porsche 928 Vortec Supercharger Kit by FAST Like New" (Item 8001364824) by bidding , however the auction has ended with another member as the high bidder. In compliance with eBay policy, the seller of that item is making this Second Chance Offer to you at your bid price of US $2,550.00 .

The seller has issued this Second Chance Offer because either the winning bidder was unable to complete the transaction . If you accept this offer, you will be able to exchange Feedback with the seller and will be eligible for eBay services associated with a transaction, such as fraud protection . To purchase this item, don't reply to this mail, just contact the seller at ianc1ianc@hotmail.com .
"

If I offer $500 will he take it.

That's pretty interesting, seeing as how I'm the winning bidder, I've contacted them both by email and phone, and am currently waiting for a call back which never came.

Mark,

Very interesting. I was certain this was someone else and still hope so. Especially since you won. Lets wait what they have to say before judging.

Erkka
How did the person that sent you the email get your email address?

There is a grammatical error in the email that suggests that it is not automated via ebay's systems. (Assuming you copied and pasted it here).

Looks like another clever scam technique.

The auction is already known to be legitimate. The email is suspect.

Hi there.

Everything that sells on ebay for any large amount of money gets a second chance offers. We will be selling a set of Viper GTS heads. I am sure that the second and third place bidders get offers for a second chance purchase as well. I have bought items via the second chance purchase, but only thru ebay!

Good luck.

I believe it was send using Contact Member functionality of eBay. All that is needed is eBay account AFAIK.

Looks like another clever scam technique.

That's what I think also.

Yes, that is certainly a fraud email from someone not connected with ebay or Motorsports. If it was a true ebay 2nd chance offer they wouldn't say, "To purchase this item, don't reply to this mail...".

Scams like this happen all too often. The item is sold to Mark, we are locating the additional items he will need to install it on his 86'. On almost all big ticket items some lowlife will attempt this type of scam. You will notice that their e-mail has nothing to do with Motorsport and is unknown to us (for now, we like to mess with them!).

And Mark, I have spoken with you on the phone prior to the auction ending and you have spoken with Garrity since. We also left you a message last night informing you of the progress. In fact I'm talking to you on the phone right now...

Everyone feel free to respond to the e-mail address of the scammer. Enjoy yourselves and have some fun at his expense.

Yup, someone (NOT Dave!) is up to something. I just spoke with him and all is as it should be. Vil should look into reporting whoever sent him that message.

Thanks, Dave, for being right there with the good communication!

Please go ahead. Good that this is sorted out. I hope none of the bidders takes offer seriously.

EDIT: Informed eBay about the message. Probably they will not actually do anything but...
