Default Splicing in Wires--(Melted Ground wire)

I figured this deserves a separate topic (found the melted ground wire in my fuel pump issues search).

I am going to have to replace the Brown ground wire from the Fuel Pump to it's ground point in the hatch area (back right corner).

I found it melted almost the entire length. I have a high index of suspicion that the wire also melted the Green/Red + wire somewhere between the fuel pump and where the Green/Red wire heads towards the front of the car. This is causing the lack of voltage (even with everything jumpered in the car--alarm, EFI and Fuel Pump relays) to the fuel pump. Not enough of a short to blow the fuse, but enough contact to cause problems.

So, I need to replace the Brown wire up to the Ground Point--which is VERY corroded--cleaning that ground point is mandatory. Easy enough to do...

The Green/Red wire will need to be spliced in (rather than try to free it from the wiring harness all the way to the front of the car). I am going to remove it from the Fuel Pump and cut it just where it starts to go to the front of the car..
I need to splice the proper wire into place. I can wrap the two pieces together and use a crimp or wire nut--any recommendations?

I'm going to TRY to find a Brown and Green wire to work with--if not, then Red and Black.

Thanks!!
