Default Jumping Relays...A bit of help, please...

I'm heading out now for about an hour, but was hoping to get some work done on the 1984 s (auto) when I get back...

Fuel pump is not getting power.

First I will check all the connections, trace the ground wire, make sure it is good, ground directly to the battery (-) pole.

Now, if I jump either/both the Fuel Pump and EFI relays, and it works (assuming all the connections are fine). Then there is a Relay problem, nicht war?

The 30 is jumped to the 87. WHICH is the (-) end (towards ground)?

For Fuel pump power issues, I will leave the key to the "RUN" position. I am assuming that at that position, there SHOULD be current running (I'll use a multi-meter to check) between 30 to 87. Is this correct, or does the current ONLY run when when the car is cranking/running?

The other possibility is the Alarm system--If I recall, it is Jump Upper Right Pin to Lower Left Pin on the Z-plug... I may just leave that jumpered the whole time until I elimnate everything else.

Finally, the Fuel Pump relay is pretty obvious--controls power to the Fuel Pump.

The EFI relay--does it control the Fuel Pump in any means, or just the injectors? I know the Engine works fine when I hook an external battery to the Fuel pump (starts, runs fine, dies when I disconnect the battery to the fuel pump). Basically, does the EFI relay control the Fuel Pump relay, or can I eliminate that as a problem?

Thanks.

Now, off--I need to get a Propane tank....I went into Sam's Club on Friday late (I had seen them before) and got a Member's Mark Gas Smoker--Price was dropped to $300 at the State College, PA store (from $600--Item #296414 (I use a charcoal/wood smoker, but need a bit more convenience occasionally)..I have 3 slabs of Baby Back ribs and a side of Salmon as a tester for the smoker to see how it does....

Check fuze #22 while you're at it. Even if the fuze is good, it can have a bad contact that prevents power to the relay.

Whenever i get a no start condition i start at #22 to ensure power at both ends of the fuze, then pull Relay XVI and test terminal 30 for 12v with the ignition on.

If you got both those things, jumper from terminal 30 to terminal 87. The car will start and run until the key is released if the relay is the problem(and there's a 99% chance it is, lol).

If that does not make the car start, only then should you dive into checking grounds, power to the fuel pump, etc, etc.

Good luck bro.

Key on or not, putting a wire between 30 and 87 will result in the pump running (if all is well).

My low voltage problem was fixed only after I took the whole fuse/relay panel off, and cleaned the connectors on the back.

'New' fuse and relay panel--cleaned everything, made sure connections were good before I put it back in the car. Same issue with both the new and old panel.
