These were older diesel Benzes, Fords and whatnot. You could run a mixture of Veggie oil and Diesel, or just straight Veggie. In order to run two tanks you basically had a toggle switch into the fuel filter and could go back and forth. On the Ford trucks he had them running dual filters.

I don't know a lot about diesels but he had converted a few newer or late 90's models as well. Not sure what all was involved to do this. If you really want it to be free though just go to your local Chinese restaurants, collect their old oil which they pay to dispose of and filter it at home. It's breathtakingly simple. The only consequence will be changing your fuel filter every 3-4000 miles. Buy the new stuff and the filters last longer. My sister drove the car back from Santa Maria to San Diego and the fuel mileage was in the mid 20's. I drove the car and others for a much shorter period of time and easily managed to cruise at my 90-100mph comfort zone. Lastly, there is nothing on the planet built like an old Mercedes Benz.
