That's an interesting thought. Of course German engines are heavier, more complex, more expensive and have less power than any good, mildly built SBC.

I did not find the thread where they show the printout of both the Benz & Vet's numbers. BTW the 6.3 had higher compression than stock and headers, I don't know about the Vet's condition. The races took place around 2002 not sure...It was just and option for him to consider, I don't realy care what he does with is Shark,it's is business. I guess the more "Basterdizing" is done, the more value my car will end up having. The only thing I can say, is that I will never buy a 928 with a Chebby engine in it...Well maybe for the rest of the car.

On a side note : Last year there was a very good condition (seller's description) E type Jag (not a 2+2) with a corvette engine in it and he could not sell it for $15K. Now if he had the original engine....If my crystal ball is correct, that is what will happen with the 928.

That Subaru engine would be ridiculous. Talk about going from bad to worse. Where would you get parts? I'm sure it would be the picture of reliability. In fact it was such a successful powerplant I never even knew they had tried to campaign in Formula One. How about torque. Where would you find the right ring and pinion so you could get the thing to move off the line? Does Porsche make a 5.5/1 ring and pinion for the 928?

Wow, what a wild ride through this thread...obviously a controversial topic anytime you mention 'effing' with an original porsche. Some of those chevy conversions on that site look awseome but they spent major bucks making the conversion....personally i'd rather have my 5 liter under the hood. Its beginning to look more like a rod bearing than thrust bearing for a couple of reasons....the material in the oil filter is bearing and the engine was making a knocking noise. Once we get the oil pan off and have a look i'm sure we'll have the answer. Thanks to all who have posted, called and sent private messages....its a pretty supportive community out there.
