Default My odometer quit working - again!

I replaced the gear in my odometer less than 1000 miles ago and now the silly thing has quit working again! Both the odometer and trip odometer have quit working. I assume it's not the same gear, but I'm still going to have to take the pod apart to check it out, unless anyone has a suggestion for something simple it might be.

Only good news - my gas mileage on that last tank probably wasn't as bad as I first thought. I'm betting I actually drove more than 205 miles on that last tank.

Bill....seems to me there is something like a multi plug or terminal in the spare wheel well that can corrode and create issues with the spedometer and odemeter.I think it is well documented in the archives. Wouldn't hurt to check it out....Good-luck..................Bill

Thanks for the suggestion. I just had my spare out recently - maybe I just knocked the connector loose. That would be one of the easiest fixes I've ever done.

It happened almost every time I even moved my spare. An uplug and a re-plug usually works to correct. However, along with some other cleaning, I sprayed some electronic cleaning spray on both male and female connections. I haven't had a problem since and I HAVE moved the spare around a few times. I DO try to make sure I don't bump the connection though. Give this a try. Good luck!

I replaced my odo gear this winter. when doing so, I noticed the numbers had jammed. after fiddling with them for a while, they freed up, and I put in the new gear, and put everything back together.

Well after about 400kms I noticed a tic-tic sound from the dash, and the odo came to a stop again. I think I managed to put 487 kms on it before it stopped again.

I guess the drums with the dials on them have jammed again. I might consider getting a new (used) set if thats the case. I'll open it up again in the winter.

I poked around the spare tire well and thought I'd found the problem - there was a broken wire. But looking at the manuals to try and determine where it goes and then following it back led to the connector that used to attach to the cell phone the PO had installed, and which I removed.

Searching the archives, it appears that if the connector in the spare tire well is loose the speedo doesn't work either, but in my case it works fine. There are also some references to resoldering a section of the instrument panel - but not which section. Maybe I'll have to touch up the whole thing. At least once I confirm it isn't the gear itself!
