Default Carpet, mat, cargo net, luggage cover... please advice

Hi,

I need a new carpet piece for the trunk, and possibly for the drivers side floor.

-What's the difference between mats and carpets?
-Can I use mats W/O carpets?
-Can I get carpet with logo/inscription?
-What is silverknit?
-My interior is solid black, what type of fabric should I look for to match the other carpeting? (original)

I also want a net that straps my biefcase to the trunk floor, attached to the four hoops that come thru holes in the carpet. I do not want the net between the two back seats. Neither I do not want the large piece of solid cloth that hides the luggage from potenital burglars. What is the correct term for the piece I want?

What and where do I buy?

MM

I got nice insignia mats from 928 Specialists - I think they carry all mats and carpets.

Click on their banner at the top of this forum to access their on-line store.

Mats overlay and protect carpet.

The rear cargo area carpet piece is carpet. There are mats made for that area too, as well as the footwells. Mats are generally loose versus glued down, but in the 928 some of the carpet is glued, most is loose.

You can buy carpet and mats with logos. Depends on the vendor. Porsche crests is hard to come by as Porsche doesn't allow its reproduction.

Sliverknit is a wool preparation and knitting process to imitate a fleece and make the wool washable. All 928 carpet is sliverknit.

There are many sources for carpet sets or pieces to match your black interior.

The cargo net that holds down items in the rear is available used only, although there may be someone making a good copy. The cargo cover that hides items from view is not available new anymore, but Hon makes a serviceable but not exact copy.

I just replaced my two front mats but the old ones had the crest on them and you can't get those anymore, something about not wanting to be stepped on. My new mats I got from Lloyd's and they have 928S logo embrodiered on them.

Guffalo, If you just want to replace a few different pieces of carpet, you could buy a yard of the sliverknit carpet instead of the entire ~$700 package to replace all of it. Go to www.gahh.com, they carry seat leathers and carpet.
