Default MY '94 Analog Console Clock Wiring (Anyone BTDT?)

To fellow '94 (and presumably '95) owners. Have any of you been behind the console clock and looked at the wires?

This weekend I was and did and I found something interesting...

The wiring diagrams show that the clock gets four wires:
- blue/black (activates clock backlight)
- brown (ground)
- red (30 bus)
- black (15 bus)

And the harness to my clock does indeed have these four wires.

However, the clock only has three pins on its side of the connector. The black wire makes no connection. BTW, the clock seems to work just fine.

The four wires with three inputs has me puzzled.

Anyone?

Perhaps. But I suspect that it was Colonel Mustard in the Factory Room.

And so does the wiring diagram from the WSM. I have that on my laptop. But not the 928 international catalogue; it does not appear to available in electronic form from their site.

So, from your Cheshire Cat mien, should I take it that the 928 catalogue contains a correction of the factory diagram and explains why there is an unused 12v connection?

The 928 Intl cat. says:
"When installing 1990 and later clocks into earlier cars you will need to know the following wiring order:

Top pin:
Ground
Empty
12v from lights
12v constant
"

Ah...

But perhaps some dramatic intent?

But, this actually brings up the real question: The harness to the clock still has this black 12v wire. How is that wire terminated? Did the factory terminate the black wire in the connector? Or did they leave it dangling with a bit of electrical tape around it?

I ask, because in my GTS the clock harness is a total mess. There are TWO sets of splices in the three operative wires. And the black wire's just loose with a bit of electrical tape. I'm going to disassemble the connector and rebuild the harness with one set of (marine grade) butt connectors and some new heat shrink. I'll just make sure that the black wire's totally insulated. But, I'd like to know what the factory did with it.

Seems like the most likely explanation is that the clock in this GTS melted down at some point and a non-GTS replacement was (poorly) wired-in? Or was there ever a 'four-wire' analog clock?
