Default Sunroof Scratches

When the sunroof opens, what's in the space between the roof and the top of the sunroof? The sunroof is getting scratched by something! Anyone ever experience this?

There is an open cavity and the only thing that is going to scratch it is the bracing in the fixed roof as the rear of your sunroof lid slides past.

There are several write ups to date on adjusting the sunroof. In short, you have to pull the interior liner and then adjust the rear lid height with the side adjustment screws. Try using some masking tape over the area where it is getting scratched while you are adjusting.

You can do a search in the Rennlist forums or go to Greg Nicols' site and follow the procedure.

Good luck!

Keith is correct about the screws on either side of the panel. If they are loose, the sliding panel will tilt incorrectly and cause the panel to be scratched as it slides back and forth. Mine has deep scratches in it from this problem, which took a few agonizing screetchy passes before I isolated the cause. Make certain those screws are TIGHT when you fix them and make certain that every year you clean and lubricate the sliding rails to eliminate friction; they become coated with dirt and particles which must affect the smooth operation of the panel and put stress on the cables which attach to the screw anchoring points(thus transferring stress and vibration to them).

That's what's strange, it opens and closes smoothly. If anything, it looks like it sags a little.
