A local guy picked up a set for his GTS for under 1K!!
Some guy selling them off his newly aquired car for aftermarket rims.

I thought wheels are a rotating mass and the heavier they are the more difficult it is to accelerate. I would think on a dyno you would see a loss of HP when the wheel weighs more. How much less HP?

DrNick... how are you.

GTS is running fine... gotta get it back from MikeS who is doing a few tweaks to the S/C package and some normal things like adding cross drilled rotors.
Those look great on your car... i think i really need the extra rubber for the extra HP and TQ.

Andy is always working on something not quite sure what he has up his sleve.. but I am sure that he is quietly helping people as he always does.

I was all set to buy a set of these turbo twists (hollow OEM or aftermarket - pretty much the same to me) - then I saw the 996 5-spokes...

Hi Dr. Nick!

If I tilt my screen just right, I can see those wheels. That's a super sweet lookin' ride you have there, with some interesting mods.
Where I can see more pics of that orange eye candy?

Abiding,
D

Well the guy listed above still has them and he is literaly down the road from me... the price is right, but I think the Cup 2 wheels still look the best for some reason. Hmmm... sounds like a sleeper.

If you are not that concerned about the weight issue or possible differences in strength, I think the ultimate set-up would be to run the aftermarket rear wheels up front with the original hollow spoke rears in the back. You then would have a 10 x 18 et 65 up front with the 11 x 18 et 45 in the rear. That would seem to be just about ideal.

Cpires, I plan to test this during my next dyno outing. I have 18" Rivas on my GT w/ 285 rubber, and the acceleration rate was noticeably slower with these vs the stock forged 16" CS wheels. I plan to do a back to back dyno test to see how much HP is lost.

I was watching some kind of "Tuner" show an Speed last year, and they had performed several performance upgrades which netted an 18 hp increase. Then they put on a big brake kit, and 18" (heavier) wheels, and put it back on the dyno. IIRC, they lost 21 hp!!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely something to think about.

Light and strong rules!!!!!!!!!
