Default Radical New Tire Design by Michelin

Check these out. Who is first in line to put these on?

Thought you might like to see the next generation of tires. They had a
pair at the Philadelphia Car show. Attached are pictures of the new Michelin tires. These tires are
airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon. The bad news for law
enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires
This is what great R&D will do and just think of the impact on existing
technology:
a.. no more air valves
a.. no more air compressors at gas stations
a.. no more repair kits

Hey Tres, don't worry about the repost man. It's the first time I've seen it, and I've been checking in pretty steadily for over a year now! There are plenty of others for whom this will be news, too. And for those who've already seen it, they can go read another thread.
Thanks.

I read up on those once; production versions would have sidewalls to keep crud out. The ones you see there are built that way to emphasize the "no air" aspect.

And no ability to adjust handling with air pressure changes!

All this because why? Air never loses its spring.

Why are these better than the run flat tires that exist today? They have to cover the sidewall. That must just be for demonstration. Imagine all the crud that would get packed in there.

Current technology runflats are very expensive, and very heavy for their size.

They look funny as hell, so much for nice *** rims, they will look weird now!!! I bet there is some type of covering on the side wall.

What happens when you rub a curb real well? How much of it gets shreded even if it's got a sidewall, it won't be under any pressure from the inside to resist an impact? I'm not sold, yet of course.
