Default A/C hose source

Anyone know a good source for replacing the rubber a/c hoses on an '86.5? I guess I can spend $300 for the two at the compressor but if someone knows of other options I would be interested. I asked the hydraulic shop that made me a new oil cooler line for the '78 with the old fittings and they said they could do it but it would be near what new ones cost.

A good AC shop should be able to rebuild your hoses for $50-$75 each. Don't forget the coolant return hose.... that makes 3 hoses all together. Let your fingers do the walking....

Thanks Dave. Any hoses for the rear a/c? Thanks again.

Rear? Ouch... Many will say the motor has to come out to get at all of the lines. I've heard it can be done with the motor in, but requires cutting at a strategic spot. There is a thread on this subject here.

The lines don't need to be cut to pull the rear lines out if he is talking about the rear A.C. unit.

I wouldn't bother replacing those lines unless you know you have a leak. They often last a long while.

I know they aren't a barrier hose, but they do work well.

Good luck.

Ok thanks for all the information. I'll see what I come up with.

IIRC there is one hard line that has a hose section on it that is a bugger to get out... not true?

I am about to get some lines for my '86.5 made by San Carlos Radiator Shop.
I trust these guys and they do good work. I will report back when they're finished if you can wait for about a week, because that's when my new compressor should arrive. Here is their address if you want to call them yourself: San Carlos Radiator & Auto Air
777 Industrial Road
San Carlos, CA 94070
650,593.3193
Ask for Mark.

These guys do all of Devek's work and a couple of years ago they went completely through my system and, for a price, made the AC work and climate control work better than ever. Then I went and pulled a stunt (bottomed out the car on a roller coaster road in Nevada) that destroyed the compressor mount and pulley. Got the Dumbkopf Award for that one. But they had advised the compressor wouldn't last much longer anyway, so I took a chance. Hey, I got another 18 months out of it.

Maybe they could make the lines for you when they make mine. (?)

Sounds tempting- it would be easy for them too because mine is an '86.5 also. Unless of course they are all the same, in that case it wouldn't matter. What are they charging you?

I will need to call them for an estimate. I am waiting for the compressor before returning to their shop. Should be this week.
