For the past few nights, my '85 32V alarm will go off, starting at 2 a.m., cycle once, then a few minutes later start beeping again. All on its own. I've watched it and no on is messing with it. Can it be connected to a clock? There is the factory alarm and an aftermarket. I THOUGHT I had disconnected both of them in stopping a battery drain.
On factory, how do you turn on/turn off the alarms. Is it a sequence via the keys? Where do I look for best factory alarm disconnect?
Thank you,
Harvey
My neighbors don't like my car now.

I had a similar problem. It would randomly go off in the middle of the night. I eventually found that the rear hatch receiver's alarm wiring was loose, but not totally disconnected. Once in a while the car would "sense" that the rear hatch was open (i.e., also turning on the interior lights) and set off the alarm. I only figured it out when I saw the interior lights on in the middle of the night. I pulled the wire off the rear hatch that activates the interior lights and it hasn't happened in the last 2 years.

Good ideas, I'll check both. The battery is two years old but did get run down a couple of times so it may not in top shape. I'll check it out, as well as the wires that Big Dave suggests. Thanks!

928's are known to have these little guys running around in the electrical system... ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

My dad's old 85 did the same thing. Dave, we did the same thing disconnecting the rear hatch's ground wire for the lights and it went away. Porsche didn' use the best grounding points when they made these cars in the 80s. My 944 still does this every now and then too.

I noticed that the trunk lid had somehow "self-released" I'm suspecting that this may be the reason the alarm went off at 2 a.m. Why/how it did this, I don't know. I think I'll take your advice and go searching for the alarm relay/fuse which I've never seen before and pull it, which apparently is under the radio area. Sounds like that will mean taking off the console side panel. Any other WYIT things to do?
This helps narrow it down. Now I have to figure out why the truck lid might have popped open on it's own. It's electrical release too so maybe that's another related gremlin. Obviously these little devils are related and run in packs!
Thanks.

Disabling the alarm seems to involve something other than a relay and fuse....
"Jump pins 1 and 6 on the Z-plug". The Z-plug appears to be behind the central electric panel.

I know you have found the fault but it's worth a mention- never disable your car alarm when it goes off for no apparent reason - car thieves often set them off for a few days hoping the owners will disable their alarms and HEY PRESTO an uncomfortable conversation with your insurance company!
Also I drive a hackney cab and the radio frequency for the dispatch is the same as BMW and Rover MG's car alarms- any time I start or turn off the meter next to these cars the alarm goes of- very amusing!!!
